Full description
Experience the unique taste of sherry wine at one of the most famous bodegas (wineries) in the world. Located in the sherry capital of Jerez de la Frontera and globally recognized for its brandies and fortified wines, González Byass has a fascinating history that includes the construction of the great Tío Pepe bodega in 1963. Make your way to the bodega in the fertile green hills, where the poignant music and dance of the flamenco was born. Among the legendary products González Byass produces, the Soberano brandy is world-renowned, while the Lepanto brandy features a distinctive bottle designed by the Royal Glass Factory of La Granja. The sherry wines produced at González Byass are made from the best Palomino grapes, resulting in a young wine that is thoroughly mixed and ripe. The wine is aged for a year in open oak barrels, as it is one of the few wines that improve from contact with the air. A noble and old sherry can educate younger ones and the older wines are stored in aged barrels and constantly replenished to maintain their quality. In 2014, González Byass was awarded the "Best Visitor Centre" in the Drinks International Wine Tourism Awards. .

They gave us the wrong meeting point. As a consequence, we were late for the start of the tour and we missed part of it. Once there at the box office, the person in charge gave us poor directions and in bad manners, we had to ask him to help us because he was only looking at his phone. Their attention was so bad that we had to turn to another person from the company to help us find our guide, Maribel, who gave us an excellent tour, the tour we managed to do, despite not being complete, for reasons Outside of us, we loved it thanks to the work of our guide, who not only explained the operation of the winery, but also answered all the questions we asked him and gave us additional information about the wines and advice for our stay.

The tour was instructive and could be placed nicely within the region, nature, ways of life, etc. Much information was given about the types of sherry, but we were sorry that we only received a verbal explanation from the guide during the tastings, but the the names of the sherries and their 'applications' were quickly forgotten because we did not receive any information on paper. Furthermore, the person at the entrance did not take into account the type of booking we had made: we paid 22 euros per person for 4 tastings and tapas. At first we only got 2 tastings and no tapas. Fortunately we were alert enough to fix this.

The ordering of the cards went smoothly via the guide and I then paid with my VISA. The tour was in German! All you had to do was show the mobile voucher on your cell phone, which is another plus point. You save paper. The tour was very interesting, as was the subsequent tasting. I had now ordered the tickets for 21 euros and we were allowed to try two sherries. You could then cost another glass for 1.50 each. In the end we were able to buy these bottles in the shop. The ones we were interested in cost between 7-15 euros. Then there was a lot more things to discover in this shop from cheap to very expensive ... I think there is something for everyone. :-)
