Full description
Depart from your hotel, heading to the south west township of Johannesburg. Take a route through the Johannesburg south suburbs and see the sleek cars and spacious freeways. Next, discover Johannesburg city with its tall buildings, most of them built during the apartheid era, while you make your way to Soweto. Watch the beautiful scenery disappear as you enter Soweto. Pass through two iconic landmarks that used to generate power in the township of Soweto and are now normally used for bungee jumping. Drive through Soweto heading to the famous Hector Pieterson Museum with its dark history about the youth uprising in 1976. From here, drive through the township for sightseeing, and finally head to Mandela House Museum on Vilakazi Street. In the museum you will learn about the father of the nation, Nelson Rholihlahla Mandela, who became a world icon. Finally, hop on back to the tour vehicle returning to your hotel. On route, you will pass through FNB stadium also known as Soccer City or The Calabash, which hosted the opening and closing matches of the 2010 World Cup finals.

Vincent was a wonderful tour guide. He was prompt and courteous, and never made us feel rushed. He has a remarkable memory for history and kept us interested. The Mandela Home was good to see and learn more about Nelson Mandela. The Hector Pieterson Museum absolutely touched my soul. I’d recommend this tour to anyone visiting Johannesburg.

Christian was amazing! First when we telephoned the African Eagle company they immediately set up a hotel pick-up near Melrose even though the website showed it outside their pickup area. Then Christian showed up in a beautiful clean car and offered to drop us at the airport after the tour rather than having to return to the hotel to collect suitcases and call an Uber. He used car watchers when we got out a couple of times so our luggage was safe in the car. And wow-this guy is just fabulous! He is very professional and a fount of information, but also as a local guy can really explain things and adjust stops if there is any chance of security issues. Seeing both the city with its gold mining memorials and changing uses and Soweto with many surprisingly fancy homes as well as shanty areas was also really informative, as well as the Mandela and Pieterson museums and their history. We had a great time in just a half day. Highest recommendation!

Our half-day tour of Johannesburg- Soweto was the highlight of our trip! Our guide Vincent was a fantastic guide and driver. All our stops on the route were expertly explained with rich history and also prospects of a bright Johannesburg. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking for a broad understanding of Johannesburg but short for time.
