E-Bike Day Trip: Visit a Roman Castle and Taste Craft Beer

4. E-Bike Day Trip: Visit a Roman Castle and Taste Craft Beer

After pick up at your hotel it is about 20 min drive to the starting point at the very edge of Prague. This way you avoid most traffic and you start enjoying great cycling paths along the Vltava and Berounka rivers. Biking on flat trails surrounded by meadows and small towns all the way to the most beautiful and best preserved castle in Czech – Karlstejn. After about one hour break to soak the medieval atmosphere you head for a final push of about 12 kms to a microbrewery in the area. Though you have to climb a bit during the last part, it is really worth it. There are no more towns along the way, just little villages and lush countryside all around you. It seems people here live the same way as years ago, when communists operated a Czech biggest air-missile base carefully hidden in forests of a hill above you. When you arrive in the cozy village of Vseradice, you enjoy a decent late lunch and taste locally made beer. Usually master is present and if so, he is always happy to show you around (this is no scheduled tour, he just likes to talk and you like to listen…) Then you will ride back to near Karlstejn and then take a train back to your car and finally you are dropped at the hotel. Please be aware that you have to be able to cover up to 50 km with a few (easy) uphills in about 6 hours.

“Let us take you to the most stunning castle in the Czech Republic, avoiding all traffic en route.“ You will avoid cars by starting your ride right on the edge of Prague, where you will arrive from your hotel. About 97% of the ride follows designated (mostly paved) cycling paths, and before seeing the castle for the first time, you will enjoy peaceful Czech countryside and lush green forests that will make you think you’re much farther than a few minutes from Prague by train. If you feel like it, you can stop for a swim at the river or have a break at one of many little biker cafés frequented by local cyclists. Or perhaps take a short break at a popular bakery? If you prefer only paved tracks, no problem, if you don’t mind a bit of dirt, your tour operator knows some easy shortcuts. The best comes at the very end of your ride, when you will be taken to a meadow tucked away between dense forest. From here, there is the most stunning view of the Karlstejn castle, so stunning not simply because Karlstejn is suddenly below you, but as you will see nothing but the castle and forests around you. Suddenly, you'll feel as Charles IV and his companions might just march past on their horses. If you're interested, guests are welcome to attend a 55-minute tour inside the castle (170 CZK, not included in price), though we think castle’s beauty is rather outside than inside. If you are a beginner or intermediate biker and want to explore the Czech Republic capital’s surroundings, this is the way to go! Feel free to join your guide for a lunch at their favorite restaurant by the castle at the end of the ride (included in price). This was a delightful one day excursion into the countryside with our guide who was an excellent English speaker and who took us in a private van (just the two of us plus our guide) which made for a private tour that we enjoyed very much. The glass factory is not much to see, but the Castle is the real highlight. If you have a day to kill and want to get out of Prague, this might be the right trip for you.

Our guide Martin was a pleasure to ride with. He picked us up promptly from our hotel and taught us how to use the bikes. He did a great job choosing a route to the castle and even stopped at a couple cafes to grab a coffee and bite to eat along the way. He was fun to hang with and talk to, and did a great job going over different aspects of Czech culture.

Moin Moin, we went with Pawel last week. He is a young driver and guide who told us a lot, but also responded individually to our wishes. We were lucky enough to only drive in threes and were therefore able to schedule our stops and waiting times ourselves. We found all three stops wonderful and had a lot of fun on the tour

Just the two of us plus our guide. We had a wonderful, quiet tour around the caves, and a castle tour and lunch topped off with a quick photo at a nearby viewpoint.

SOOOOO MUCH FUN!!!! This tour exceeded high expectations! The car was incredible, the castle was breathtaking, and our driver was fantastic!!!! Highly recommend!
