Full description

Learn about one of the darkest chapters in 20th-century European history on this guided tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum.

Make your own way to the Auschwitz-Birkenau museum in your own vehicle or by public transport (bus or train). The journey from Krakow takes approximately 1.5 hours. When you arrive, meet your host who will give you your ticket and introduce you to the group.

Skip the queue line with pre-booked entrance and pass through the airport security-style check before entering the Memorial. Inside the Auschwitz I museum, embark on a guided walking tour with a professional certified educator for approximately 1.5 - 2 hours. After that, take a bus to the Auschwitz Birkenau II memorial for a 1-hour guided walking tour.

After this, walk around on your own and spend time as long as you want inside Auschwitz-Birkenau II. Return to your hotel by bus, car or train yourself (transport is not included in the price).

Please be aware that the lunch break is only about 10 minutes, so it is advisable if you bring a packed lunch with you.

We initially struggled to find our guide as we had not been contacted the day before with a specific location. I ended up having to call a number on our tickets and the lady assisted me to find the right person. We didn’t know we weren’t allowed to take bags inside and were too late to put them back in our car so it was a bit annoying that we had to pay to store them. The actual guide and tour were really good and made up for the annoying parts. You can actually book tickets in advance straight through the Auschwitz website but when we tried it said it was full for the day we wanted which is why we ended up going through Get Your Guide.

Told to arrive 15 mins early to meet the guide but the guide didn’t show up until 10 mins after the guide was suppose to Show and felt rushed through, felt like I couldn’t stop to take anything in, only book this if you have a hire car to get to birkenau 2, another couple allowed us to get in their car with them which was very kind and lucky, the reason I rated this higher than it should of been was because the guide we got was great with the things she was saying, I’d definitely go unguided next time

It's difficult to rate a tour of this nature as 'excellent' however our guide Zigi (along with Halina) was very, very good - made the subject much more interestng than simple visual evidence and statistics. My wife and I found it very interesting but sobering and it reinforces some aspects of a huge event in world history - it also reinforces that we continue to live in difficult times and that atrocities are not only history - perhaps on a different scale but 'civilised man' can still reach the depths. As my countryman wrote - 'man's inhumanity to man..................'
