Arrive at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum in the small town of Oświęcim (about 60 kilometers west of Krakow) and get a 3-hour tour of the Auschwitz camps with a licensed guide. See some of the original buildings of the largest concentration camp of Nazi Germany, and pause for thought as you hear about the horrific scale of the mass extermination. Visit the gas chambers where so many of the inmates were put to death and see piles of clothes stripped from the people sent to the camps by the Nazis. Quality service with a very good guide throughout the visit! The trip went perfectly, at the places announced and on time. The driver spoke perfect English and took his time to answer and repeat, rephrasing if necessary. The driver and the guide accompanied us from A to Z! Bring a hat and sunglasses if the weather is nice!

The Auswitz is a must, if you go to Poland. But there are big differences between the guides. We happened to have two, a gentlemen for Auswitz I and a lady for Birkenau. The gentlemen was matter-of-factish and very informative, but only with the lady did we realize how much better it can get. The lady, called Barbara, was a superb actor and instead of giving us impartial facts, told us stories. I literally had tears in my eyes on a few occassions. The transportation from and to Krakow was very smooth and Patrik was an excelent driver and companion.

A must do tour when visiting Krakow. Don't bother trying to get to Auschwitz independently, go on an organised trip with transport, you'' get so much more out of it. A very sombering and sad trip but equally we learnt so much from our excellent guide who took us in and out of various areas and buildings at both camps. Wear comfy shoes, note that you can only take a tiny bag in, water only which you can only drink in designated areas and no food allowed, so take something to eat and drink in the court yard before you go through the security scanners to begin the tour. There is a tiny book stall that has some very interesting books about the camps. We picked one up for 20 zolty which equates to £5. Fascinating as well as harrowing and every kind of emotion and feeling in between. You are allowed to take photos in some areas but to be honest you don't really want to. I found it quite disrespectful that some visitors were taking photos in the gas chambers. A must do trip.
