Full description

Take an excursion from Las Vegas to the Hoover Dam, which has long been known as one of the engineering wonders of the world.

When the Hoover Dam was completed in 1935 it was both the world's largest electric power-producing facility and the world's largest concrete structure. Currently, it ranks as the world's 34th-largest hydroelectric generating station.

During the half-day tour, you’ll be able to view the 17 main turbines that generate a maximum of 2,074 megawatts of hydroelectric power. You’ll also take in views of the Dam and Lake Mead from the Arizona Lookout Point, the best viewing spot in the area.

You also get an up-close look at the newly opened Hoover Dam bypass bridge, which is a modern feat of engineering, soaring 900 feet above the Colorado River. This bridge is the longest and tallest arch bridge in the western hemisphere.

Later, enjoy a spectacular vista of the Mike O'Callahan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, which opened in 2010 and stretches nearly 2,000 feet in length.

There is a paddle-wheeler cruise on Lake Mead available as an option with this tour.

Please note that this is not the Hard Hat Tour of the Hoover Dam.

Mr Bill was an excellent tour guide and being driven there was great. He had excellent info for the whole trip, but my family was burdened by the time constraints set forth by the group setting. We wanted to have more time to explore all of the dam. So for nerds like us, driving yourself may be a better option.

Found site on-line. Easy to book. Good value. Immediate confirmation, and text with direction to meeting location and time for pick-up at our hotel. Mr. G was our driver and guide. Very nice. Had breakfast snacks, juice & water for us. Knowledgeable. Good humor. Just overall good experience. Shared cool information & facts during the drive. Comfortable mini-bus.

Great excursion, but it is better to book it on site

We pre-booked the excursion online & therefore paid almost $15 per person more than if we had booked on site. The pick-up takes place at the hotel, but an exact time will not be announced, so be sure to ask by email! We were the first on the bus, so the trip took us almost 7 hours. The driver (Bill) was very, very nice and told us a lot about Vegas and the surrounding area, as well as the dam. First you make a photo stop on a bridge over the dam. The tour in the dam starts with a film that looks a lot like propaganda for the dam and is not very informative, the rest of the tour was quite short but nicely done, all together about 45 minutes. After that you have about 1.5 hours at the visitor center to watch and walk on the dam. The dam is worth a trip because it is really huge. On the way back we made 3 more photo stops on the other side of the dam, at Lake Mead & at a meadow with Nevada's heraldic animal - a nice gimmick.
