Due to its central location between Heraklion and the Lasithi Plateau, the monastery was used as a shelter for Cretan freedom fighters. Within a few months, between October 1866 and June 1867, Panagia Kera was burned twice by Omer Pasha's army. On the way back, make a final stop in the village of Mohos for a drink of raki (alcoholic drink). The view from the road to the Cretan Sea, Mallia, and Hersonissos as the sun sets is a perfect way to end the day.

Our experience with Safari Experts was amazing from start to finish ! We were picked on time at our hotel and George our guide made the whole experience fun and entertaining. !On the way to the cave, George stopped at different photo stops so we can take pics. He picked different types herbs and explained what they were. He also picked fresh fruits along the way. Zeus cave was awesome. and our lunch was delicious. We stopped at farm and milked a goat and had fresh cheese. It was the best part of our trip ! Thank you!

We had an incredible time, our guide (I think he’s name was Andreas) was so happy to be able to show us around it almost felt like it wasn’t a job for him, just something he loves to do! Even when we arrived to Zeus Cave and learnt it was closed he was quick to think on his feet and took us high up in the mountains to admire truly amazing views so we didn’t even feel like we missed out on anything! One of the best day trips I ever been to!

there was no sunset due to the weather but everything else was fantastic, especially our tour guide
