Full description

As you weave through the historic neighborhoods of Baixa, Chiado, Bica, and Cais do Sodré, enjoy shops with histories that date back more than a century, iconic dishes prepared by the best of the best, and Portuguese pastries that are known the world over.

Your expert guide will lead you through the complete Portuguese food experience. By the end, you’ll know exactly how to eat and drink like a local.

Start off at an iconic pastry shop that’s been open for close to 200 years. Learn how to prepare coffee the Portuguese way as you enjoy yours with a selection of sweet and savory local pastries. Then, you can pay a visit to the oldest traditional-style grocery store in the city.

You’ll discover the importance of bacalhau (salt cod) in Portugal and sample melt-in-your-mouth acorn-fed Iberian ham. Before the next bite, visit one of Lisbon’s principal churches, where you’ll glimpse the city’s dark past.

Next, you’ll be off to sample Lisbon’s famous cherry liqueur. This tiny, 180-year-old family-run shop is exactly where you need to try one of the city’s most locally-loved drinks.

Stroll to one of Lisbon’s central squares where your guide will bring more of the city’s history to life. From the 18th-century earthquake to a fountain dating back to the same time, find out how history has shaped the city over the years.

Then you’ll wander down to try what Anthony Bourdain considered the best Portuguese pork sandwich there is, prepared by those who have done it best for over 50 years.

Continuing downhill through the hip and trendy neighborhood of Bica, you’ll arrive in one of the favorite watering holes of the Cais do Sodré neighborhood. Here you’ll sample expertly-prepared codfish and regional cheese and olives paired with local wine or beer.

Wander over to the Instagram-worthy “pink street” to learn more about one of Portugal’s more interesting exports: canned fish. This staple of Portuguese cuisine will have you marveling at just how much flavor can be packed into a tin can.

Lastly, no Lisbon food tour would be complete without sampling a pastel de nata, one of our famous custard tarts. You’ll get to try one at the original pastel de nata places in the city before the tour ends.
