From Ljubljana: Skočjan Caves Half-Day Trip

4. From Ljubljana: Skočjan Caves Half-Day Trip

The Škocjan Caves are a unique natural phenomenon, created by the Reka River. The Reka River springs below the Snežnik plateau and flows for 55 kilometers (34 miles) on the surface. After reaching the karst — that is, the limestone surface — the river not only deepens its riverbed through erosion but also corrosion; it dissolves the limestone and creates the caves. Explore the Škocjan Caves with a local, English-speaking guide on this half-day trip from Ljubljana. Get picked up at your hotel or guesthouse at 8:30 AM, then drive to the caves as your guide informs you about Slovenia. Upon arrival at around 9:30 AM, your guide will help you to buy the tickets to enter the cave. At 10 AM, begin your tour of the caves, spending around 1 hour and 45 minutes inside. Marvel at how big the caves are and learn all about the things you see. Make sure to dress warmly as the constant temperature in the caves is between 8–10ºC (46–50ºF). After your tour, you can eat something at the restaurant near the ticket counter if you wish. Finally, get back in your vehicle at 12 PM and return to Ljubljana. The tour concludes with drop-off at your original pickup point at approximately 1 PM.

Our favorite tour of our entire stay in Slovenia! Our guide Jascha was outstanding and went out of his way to show us the best spots in and around Triglav National Park. Amazing waterfalls, views of the mountains, and stunning lakes. Highlights: Vintgar Gorge, Jasna Lake, and Pericnik waterfall. Definitely worth a visit! Tip: If you are staying in Ljubljana, ask your guide to let you out at Lake Bled end of the day to grab the last boat to the island on the lake - we got to experience it in peace and quiet and at sunset. Then, take a bus back into the capital for only a few bucks.

The guide was supernice and helpful and and in addition to telling about the place visited he also told about Slovenia's history and other things about Slovenia. The Vintgar Gorge was extremely beautiful and so was Lake Bled. The guide also took us to Lake Rohinj, which was super beautiful too. We also went to a traditional Slovenian restaurant for lunch and the guide helped us to choose traditional courses. All in all, such a wonderful day! I already recommended this trip to my friend, who's planning to visit Ljubljana later this summer.

We had an amazing day! We really enjoyed the nature and the scenery. The trip was jam-packed with beautiful places -- if you only have time to do one excursion from Ljubljana, I highly recommend this one. Jaša was an amazing tour guide (and driver)! We learned so much on the trip and had a lovely time. The hikes were really awesome, and we had enough time to go for a dip in lake Bohinj -- which was our highlight of the day.

Bled Lake is amazing. I would love to experience this trip again. The guide also did his part to make the trip so good. Of course he knew a lot and then he was good at hearing what we were most interested in and then put extra emphasis on it. That meant we got a little extra time to swim. Nice with a guide who agrees that the group gets the experience we wanted. Will definitely come again.

I was travelling to the lakes with Vasja. He was so kind, polite, fun and hospitable. On top of that the places themselves are just stunning and fascinating. I would definitely recommend this tour and exactly with Vasja-he would make the adventure even more memorable!
