Loire Valley: Vouvray Vineyard Tour and Wine Tasting

2. Loire Valley: Vouvray Vineyard Tour and Wine Tasting

Head to the quaint village of Chançay, at the heart of AOC Vouvray to meet your guide, the wife of the winemaker at the family-owned winery you'll be touring. Hear about the history of a winery owned by your guide's parents-in-laws since 1973 and immerse yourself in life at the winery for a few hours.  Take a guided walk in the vineyard surrounding the winery to learn about the French AOC system and its strict rules, as well as the art of vine-growing throughout the year. Understand the specificities of the terroirs in Vouvray and enjoy the view over the vineyards, the winemaker's houses, and the rock-hewn cellars that are typical of the area. Follow the path taken by the grapes at harvest time from the vineyard to the winery where they're pressed to make wine. Learn about different wine-making techniques and visit the wine cellar dug in the rock by your guide's family. Discover the traditional method used in the area to make the famous sparkling wines of Vouvray. Then taste a range of 6 wines produced at the winery from sparkling white and rosé to dry and sweet white wines. Enjoy local delicacies served with the wines, including Loire fish rillettes, charcuteries, cheeses, and local desserts. At the end of the tour, take advantage of the chance to buy wine at cellar-door prices.

Best part of our trip to Paris!

We were very pleasantly surprised when we realized we were the only people on the tour on the day that we booked it. Vincent picked us up from our doorstep and drove us out to the Loire valley in a nice BMW sedan. He was with us all day and was so friendly and fun to spend the day with. He even accommodated our request to stop for coffee in the morning. :) Our first stop was the Chateau de Amboise. We explored the castle, which was beautiful. The town of Amboise is like something from a movie. Our second stop was lunch, which was amazing. The restaurant was beautiful and upscale and the food was delicious classic French fair. It was different from what I expected based on the description (which says that the restaurant is in a cave - it wasn't, but was very nice nonetheless). Then we got to the wine tastings. We had two tastings - the first one at a little shop in Amboise and the second one at a larger winery. Everyone was very friendly and the wine at both wineries was amazing.

A really fantastic tour and tasting

Very enjoyable 3 hours combining local history, wine production and a picnic of local delicacies including of course wine tasting. I would thoroughly recommend this.
