The awe-inspiring sights of Lucca include over 100 churches and city walls designed by Leonardo DaVinci. Easily reached from Pisa and Florence, Lucca is a picture-perfect addition to your Tuscan itinerary!

Lucca's churches are among the most beautiful in Italy. Its primary cathedral is a bonafide highlight, with its grand carved-marble entrance and intricate stained glass windows.

  • Palazzo Pfanner

    2. Palazzo Pfanner

Though the interior is stunning, the real treasure of this palace is its Baroque garden. Though small, it boasts exotic trees, a fountain, statues, and a lemon house!

  • Basilica of San Frediano

    3. Basilica of San Frediano

The Romanesque church at the Piazza San Frediano might seem relatively low-key at first, but look up and you'll notice a gigantic mosaic of Christ watching over his apostles!

  • Piazza dell' Anfiteatro

    4. Piazza dell' Anfiteatro

This huge – and incredibly charming – oval piazza was built where Lucca's ancient Roman amphitheater once stood, its rounded shape following the dimensions of its predecessor.

  • Puccini House and Museum, Lucca

    5. Puccini House and Museum, Lucca

The birthplace of the great composer Giacomo Puccini is now a small museum of his life and work. The old apartment is crammed with his personal mementos and collected memorabilia.

  • City Walls

    6. City Walls

The Old Town's 40-foot walls were converted into a public garden by Maria Luigia of Bourbon. The scenic ramparts make for a wonderful amble around the city.

  • Guinigi Tower

    7. Guinigi Tower

Set between the two palaces of Case dei Guinigi, Lucca's most important tower is crowned by a garden of evergreen oaks. This slice of forest in the air is a remarkable sight!

This tour was one of the best events we experienced in 2020 properly. We been in Lucca in October and browsed through the options of guided tours. Instead of a usual walking tour, we decided to go with this special version as we are both music fans. It was a perfect mix of classical & modern musical explanations combined with a lot of insights into the city and its history. We will come again the next time we are around.

Antonietta made us feel welcome. We made bruschetta, tiramusi and pasta together. She doesn't speak English, so there was a translator. When we were done cooking, we had a really nice dinner together with her family and some friends. It was special, because we were invited in her family's home and to be surrounded with Italians. It was a nice local experience and the food was good.
