If you are on holiday in Madrid for 1 week, you should definitely not miss Toledo. A beautiful medieval city with churches, palaces and monasteries on every corner. You can discover the city with a booked bus tour either alone or with a short city tour or with a city and basilica tour. I would recommend the latter, even if not that cheap. But a visit to the really incredibly beautiful basilica is simply a must and without a guided tour you simply don't learn enough. On my next visit, however, I will take the train or a rental car so that there is simply more time. The 7 hours were just way too short!
