  • Fontainebleau & Vaux-le-Vicomte Châteaux Day Tour from Paris

    1. Fontainebleau & Vaux-le-Vicomte Châteaux Day Tour from Paris

This full-day trip from Paris takes you to the Vaux-le-Vicomte and Fontainebleau châteaux for guided tours of the castles and a chance to explore their gardens. Set off from Paris at 09:15 on the hour-long drive to Vaux-le-Vicomte, the château that inspired King Louis XIV to build his Versailles Palace. A masterpiece of mid-17th century classical architecture, the château and its grounds were created by 3 talented artists working for Nicolas Fouquet, a rich, high-ranking French official and Louis XIV's Superintendent of Finance. The 3 artists were the painter and decorator Charles Le Brun, the architect Louis Le Vau, and the landscape gardener André Le Nôtre. With an audio guide you’ll explore Nicolas Fouquet's private apartments, the state rooms, and the château's great kitchens and vaulted cellars. Enjoy a stroll through the stunning French-style formal gardens on the estate’s 86-ac...

Be aware of audioguide. Descriptions are very lengthy. Pace your tour of Fontainebleau castle (very beautiful and huge) according to the tour departure time so you will make it. We had very good and knowledgeable guide.

It was wonderful to see these places and they were so tranquil. I went on Saturday, and there were no queues, no rush or crush of people anywhere (except to get get on the bus in the morning). My photos of the day were, as a result, amazing. The audio guide for Vaux was very good, timed to my pace so I could take as little or long in any room I wanted, with clean comfortable headphones. Our bus was hot, but was swapped out for us while we were in Fontainebleau so the remainder of the trip was deliciously cool with wifi onboard. All the staff - from the ticketing, to the guide and driver were easy going and helpful. It was the easiest most professional item on my itinerary during my entire stay in Paris: delivered on time and exactly as described. Thankyou so much.

A must see for history buffs!

My wife and I enjoyed this tour very much. Be sure to get the audio guide as it gives interesting details about the rooms. The only downside is that the Vaux-le-Vicomte audio guide needs to be updated. Some objects described have been removed from public viewing. Keep in mind that many areas of the chateaux are NOT handicapped accessible (no elevators to access upper floors & cobblestone walk ways make it difficult to maneuver wheelchairs).

Vaux-le-Vicomte was by far my favorite!

Vaux-le-Vicomte was by far my favorite! When you book this trip make it a point if you’re physically able - spend the extra 3€ - go up the stairs to the dome. Fantastic View. Decent lunch$$ ! I wish we could’ve spent more time here. Fontainebleau had quite a bit of construction going on. 2 1/2 hrs was too long here - we spent a lot of time by the pond, sitting in the front garden and spending € in the gift shop. Good trip all in all.

Well organized very interesting tour. Highly recommend it.

Perfectly organized trip

I had this trip on 16th of September. An excellent trip. Very good guide speaking fluent English. Enough time to see the palaces. Highly recommend the trip and the agency. Thank you for the pleasure!!!
