Manaus: Full-Day Tour on the Amazon River

1. Manaus: Full-Day Tour on the Amazon River

Spend a day in the Amazon, the world’s largest river basin and the source of one-fifth of all free-flowing fresh water on Earth. Its rainforests are the planet’s largest and most luxuriant, and home to – amazingly – one in ten of Earth's known species. Containing nearly 40,000 plant species, the Amazon sustains the world’s richest diversity of birds, freshwater fish and butterflies. One of the world’s last refuges for jaguars, harpy eagles and pink dolphins, its thousands of tree species are home to southern two-toed sloths, pygmy marmosets and Goeldi’s monkeys. Your tour will begin with a pick-up at your Manaus hotel, or airport. From there you will enjoy a boat cruise to Lake January to see the meeting of the waters at Negro and Amazon Rivers. Switch to canoes and enter the waterway for dolphin observation and to visit the famous Victoria Regia water lilies. Sail by speedboat to an indigenous village, where you will interact with the indigenoue peoples of the Dessanos and Tucanos. Visit a jungle pharmacy and watch villagers going about their daily activities. Meet the shaman of the tribe, and see and purchase lovely handmade indigenous handicrafts.

This was the trip of a lifetime. Joshua and his team were highly organised and punctual and ensured the entire trip ran smoothly. As we went in low season, we had a guide, Kennedy, all to ourselves. His passion for the jungle and river was incredible and he ensured we experienced as much of it as we could in the short time with him (about 3 experiences per day). The accommodation was very clean and comfortable and the air con worked well. The staff spoke very little English but they were clearly having a good time and were very accommodating. The food was some of the best we’ve had in Brazil, which is saying something after coming from São Paulo. Hearty breakfasts of fruit and cake followed by huge portions of fish for lunch and dinner. We opted for the night in the jungle. It was a great experience with a tasty bbq, stargazing, and waking to a beautiful sunrise. But be prepared to be hot and not get much sleep. Overall, I’m very glad we chose Joshua’s Amazon Expeditions!

We had a fun day filled with activities. The guide was great and he was gracious and explained everything in English every time, after the Portuguese announcement, even though we were only 4 who dint speak Portuguese. That made the trip worth it as we were able to follow everything. The visit to the indigenous village was good and the pink dolphins were fun.

Great 3 hour tour that worked perfectly with our schedule. The guides were fantastic and friendly. They went above and beyond by giving us recommendations for our short stay (one day trip). Would use them again and do the other half of the tour (setting the pink dolphins and floating village). Thanks for a great tour!

Milton was great. He was very knowledgeable about the area and I appreciated his patience in answering all my questions. He introduced me to a local drink, “atomic bomb” which was delicious. I highly recommend Milton.

The trip was amazing - exceeded all expectations! Everything was organised well and ran smoothly giving us an experience of a lifetime - thank you!
