A lot of places are not open or have limited capacity so you need to make a reservation ahead of time. I think the MET was the best museum we've visited in NY and it's huge. You really need to spend a full day in it. Having a guide for a 2h tour provides you with a quick way to see the highlights as well as learn to orientate within the vast museum. Our guide in particular was very pleasant and with many stories to tell about the things she presented to us. Things that are not included in most book guides. She could answer our question or simply say so when she didn't know the answer. It's a difficult job to choose what to show, but she did a great job.
