  • Discover one of New York City's most iconic destinations
Full description
Metropolitan Museum of Art is New York’s most valuable landmark, boasting over two million works of art and artifacts from ancient Greece and Egypt, Modern art from Europe, and more. Skip the long line with this small-group guided tour and learn the museum's history and see the works of art housed within the walls. The tour begins with the Great Halls and visits all the most popular galleries. See the Chicago Stock Exchange in the American Wing, which also hosts the portrait of Washington crossing the Delaware River. Visit the Medieval European Galley where you will see the armor worn by Henry VIII. Learn how American Galleries differ from European counterparts. Learn about the lives of painters from Vermeer, Seurat, and especially Van Gogh. Your professional experienced host will guide you and be there to answer your questions. If there is a specific area you are excited to visit in the museum, please ask your host and they will happily accommodate. The best part is that you are welcomed to stay and spend the rest of your day exploring the exhibits until closing. If that's not enough, visit again in the next two days with the same entrance ticket. The Met has special extended hours on Friday or Saturday evening, and you are invited to join then for a quieter, exclusive experience. Tours will have up to 15 passengers.

Our guide, Nina, made seeing The Met, a whole new experience, even for this long term member. She provided history, context and helpful insight in a way that was not overwhelming, but engaging. Her broad based knowledge of the museum meant we had an excellent overview of the top works of art, and many of the less celebrated artists as well. I can highly recommend this tour.

Nina Grand did a wonderful job moving us quickly through hordes of people to get to all the key sites efficiently so that we were able to see much more than we would have on our own. She took all our interests and needs in to account and was knowledgeable about the museum and its art. Nice to spend an afternoon with her!

We were booked for a 30 minute intro then on our own afterward. Our tour guide kept getting phone calls during the tour from his boss. Allegedly there were other people who had booked the tour but our guide only had us on his calendar. Finally he went back to the lobby and left us on our own for a while. ( we should have made our escape from him then, but he found us) There were no other guests with him but he had a distinct odor of ETOH about him. We had certain things we wanted to spend time with but he had his agenda. Finally he left us after 2 hours and we proceeded to enjoy the rest of our visit to the MET.
