4. Fez: Private City Tour
Pick up at 9:30 in the morning from your hotel or other accommodation by our professional bilingual driver. You will meet your local guide for a tour around the medina and the main historical sites. The guide can provide tips on how to get around Fez, a map that plots out the day’s suggested itinerary, and tips on how to save money during the excursion.
Start the visit at Bab Boujloud, one of the doors that lead to the medina. See beautiful old buildings such as Madrasa Bou Inania and El-Attarine, Koranic religious institutes, and the University and Mosque of Al-Karaouine. Visit the Nejjarine Wooden Arts and Crafts Museum and discover traditional tools, carpets, furniture, and musical instruments in a beautifully restored caravanserai.
After a lunch break in one of the hundreds of restaurants in the medina, continue to the famous tanneries, where leather is still transformed as it was hundreds of years ago. Watch workers from a gazebo and learn about the various jobs, and even negotiate a new bag or belt.
Outside the Medina, see the Royal Palace with its large square lined with palm trees. Last, but not least, climb the hill at Bab Fettouh cemetery, and enjoy the panoramic view of the houses of medina. Here you can admire some of Fez’s oldest buildings and houses before your return in the evening.
