Full description

Discover Louisiana on a guided day trip from New Orleans to the historical Oak Alley Plantation, with entry tickets included, and a bayou airboat ride. Benefit from round-trip transportation from your New Orleans hotel.

Start your experience with hotel pickup, and relax on the drive to Oak Alley Plantation. Enjoy a guided tour of the plantation home by guides in period dress while you hear and learn about the times of slavery.

Take in the house's Greek Revival architecture, the antique farm equipment exhibits, and walk around the grounds where 28 evenly spaced, huge oak trees grow. Browse the blacksmith shop and souvenir shop, or stop for a snack (at your own expense) in the restaurant.

Continue onto Barataria Basin for an airboat tour of the bayou swamplands, where your local captain will guide you through the swamps, marshes, and lakes. Travel at high speeds for an exciting ride, then slow down to spot local wildlife on this exciting airboat experience.

Look out for alligators, birds, and other animals. Every airboat tour is unique, so you never know what you’ll see. Even in winter — when alligators hibernate — you’ll have a good chance of spotting these reptiles.

Back on dry land, return to the bus for the drive back to New Orleans, where you’ll finish off your trip with a convenient drop-off back at your hotel.

We started with the swamp boat first. This was an excellent choice as the day was to be very hot. The swamp boat part of our day was very entertaining. Alligators, owl sighting, and an occasional water spray from the front of the boat made the morning. On to the Oak Alley Plantation next. The house and surroundings were gorgeous. They had a gift shop/simple lunch menu for the mid day break. It is a shame to think the building of the house and plantation farming was all done by slaves. Be prepared for a one hour bus ride each way on some bumpy highway roads.

Transportation to and from each excision was very well done and convenient. Both the Oak Alley plantation tour and swamp tour (airboat) were fantastic. Tour guides for both activities were very good at what they do and made it entertaining. They were also very knowledgeable. Would highly recommend both of these tours.

For our tour, we went to the plantation before and THAN the swamps. It was great! The plantation , you get a small tour of the main house and than freedom to roam the property . For the swamps, Ernie was the best guide. Very knowledgeable, and accommodated all requests as much as he could. For sure do research on the mating and hibernation schedules of Gators if you’re planning to see some! But remember , it is a swamp tour and gators are just added fun!! We were lucky to see so many! Would absolutely recommend this! :)
