1. Timisoara: Classic Walking Tour

This tour will start with a brief introduction about the country’s situation today, so you get a feel for Romania and a basic understanding of the story of Timisoara. Learn the history of the city, starting with the Mongol invasion centuries ago through the contemporary revolution against the communist regime in Romania. During the tour, hear about the years of the Turkish occupation and see where the Turkish public bath, the bazaar, or the Central Mosque used to be located in the past. Dealu Mare Wineries: Wine Tasting Tour on the Old Wine Road

10. Dealu Mare Wineries: Wine Tasting Tour on the Old Wine Road

Enjoy an epic day trip from Bucharest, following the ancient wine road built by the Romans 2,000 years ago. Re-opened to the public after almost a century of “hibernation”, the road displays beautifully restored manors, cellars, and old monasteries. Along the way, you’ll visit two wine museums, stop for lunch in a traditional manor and enjoy wine tasting sessions at two prestigious wineries, surrounded by the endless vineyards of Dealu Mare – Romania’s most famous wine region. Short history: Romania is a country with a long-standing tradition in winemaking, and the world’s 13th wine producer, despite losing half of its arable lands and suffering a loss of prestige several decades ago, when communists favored mass production over quality. Nowadays, the country has gone through a process of mass restoration, aiming to reclaim its rightful place among the top 10 wine producers. Itinerary description: 1st stop: Bellu Manor Wine Museum Your guide will pick you up from the hotel and drive a bit over 1 hour to Dealu Mare, Romania's most famous wine region. As soon as you enter the Old Wine Road, you'll stop for a guided tour at the beautifully restored Bellu Manor – a marvel of old Romanian architecture. Built by Baron Alexandru Bellu in the 19th century, the manor is not just a great art collection, but also an important wine museum. With a great passion for wine and even owning a sparkling wine factory, the baron stored precious tools in the manor’s great cellar. It's the oldest wine press in Walachia with enormous barrels and extremely old wine-making tools going back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. 2nd stop: Lacerta Winery After learning about the long history of winemaking in Romania, it’s time for some actual wine tasting at Lacerta Winery. Same as Bordeaux and Toscana, Lacerta’s vine estate stretches along the 45th parallel and thus has the ideal climate for producing wines with a rich, complex and silken taste. Lacerta is one of the most modern wineries in Romania, with production techniques based on gravitational principles meant to limit the usage of pumps. You’ll be able to taste 6 types of high-quality Romanian wines alongside small plates of cheese and dry sausages in a fairytale location, surrounded by the endless vineyards covering the hills of Dealu Mare, at one of the most beautiful wineries in the country. 3rd stop: Casa Colinelor - 1000 Chipuri Winery The third and final stop of the day is at Casa Colinelor (Hill House) where the 1000 Chipuri (1000 Faces) Winery is located. Here you will first serve lunch and then tour the property. During the wine tasting, you will admire the beautiful vineyards surrounding the house, and visit the winery and also the cellars. There will be 6 glasses of wine, served alongside typical wine snacks. All the wines come from 1000 Chipuri, one of the most highly praised boutique wineries from the Dealu Mare wine region.

What people are saying about Nord-Vest Region

Wow is all I can say after my Dealu Mare wineries trip. This tour, truly was the highlight of my most recent trip to Romania. Firstly, the tour guide (Mihai) was knowledge & exceptionally friendly. Secondly, the wineries were exceptional & finally, the wine itself; indescribable. When we arrived at the Lacerta Winery, we were greeted by the owner Ralf, who was friendly & gave us a very enjoyable tour around the winery. We sampled a variety of red & white wines, whilst learning about the process they undertook to produce their excellent wines, which I would recommend 100%. Next, we travelled to 1000 Chipuri winery and we were greeted by the owner Stafan who kindly poured us wine after wine! He was humorous, knowledge & just good company. Overall, this tour was excellent & the hospitality from our tour guide was superb. If you want to see Romania but want to try some good wine, then I would recommend this tour! I'm back there in October & going to have another tour with Mihai

This is a brilliant tour option for anyone who wants to get the most out of a day in Transylvania from Bucharest! We started the day at 7 and had a full day of activities across the sanctuary, castle and Brasov. We had the most amazing tour guide in Dan who was so friendly and answered all of our questions and told us everything we needed to know about the area! Dan truly is an asset to the company and made us feel so at home with him. Nicolas was also great, calling us shortly after our booking to give us all the extra details of the day ahead. Really fantastic day and couldn’t have asked for anything more. Dan even gave us great recommendations on food to eat and and places to visit in Bucharest for the rest of our trip! Thank you for a great tour and we would highly recommend to anyone!! No other tour options like this in the area.

Our guide, Mattia, gave us a marvellous experience. He was impressively well informed and patient in all manner of things. The tour itself was sensational and well exceeded our expectations. The hotels were well equipped and also exceeded our expectations (especially the Continental Hotels). Would definitely recommend this trip for anyone who wants to see aspects of Romanian history and life beyond the confines of Bucharest. A nice variety of cultural and political history with scenic Transylvania as a a magnificent backdrop. It helped contextualise the Romanian nation for us. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Thank your Mattia.

I originally booked the seven canyons tour but it was closed due to the walkways being damaged days before by storms. Within the hour of booking they got back to me and gave me multiple alternative options. I chose a full day hike to Piatra Mare. The guides on the day were fantastic. I had a great time, they were super friendly and very knowledgeable on the region. Highly recommend a trip with these guys.

Nicolas was a fantastic host, very knowledgable and nothing was too much trouble for him. Would highly recommend.
