Full description

Discover Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe (3.345 mt), and the town of Taormina that sits on the slopes of Mount Tauro on this guided tour. Enjoy plenty of free time to see the Silvestri Craters, Taormina’s Greek-Roman Theater, and more. Meet with staff and the rest of the group at the meeting point in Palermo, then depart to Etna. Upon arrival, enjoy free time to visit the Silvestri Craters and other sites. Try climbing Mount Etna in two different ways: • Ascend to 2,500 meters: From Funivia dell’Etna, ride a cable car up to 2,500 meters (at Montagnola). Upon arrival at 2,500 meters, you can walk around, hike, or enjoy a drink at the bar overlooking the area. This option has an additional cost to pay on the spot, approximately €30 per person. • Ascend to the top from 2,500 meters up to 2,920 meters: From Montagnola at around 2,500 meters, jump on board the UNI-MOG (mini-coach WD4X4) to reach 2,800 meters with a licensed Etna guide. Then, hike to reach 2,920 meters. This option has an additional cost to be paid on the spot of approximately €60 per person. Afterward, depart for Taormina, a scenic town on the slopes of Mount Tauro (204 m). This stop is not guided, so you are free to explore independently at your own pace. Visit the Greek-Roman Theater and admire the views of Etna and Taormina Bay. Later, head back to Palermo to be dropped off.

Overall the excursion was great, the guide and driver were friendly, we had a rather small group (10-15 people at most) which was enjoyable. Everything is well explained and organised. I was glad to find a deal like this from Palermo ! Seeing the Etna was one of my biggest dreams and I didn't feel like driving in Sicily so renting a car was out of the picture. Keep in mind though that additionally to the price advertised you will have to pay the entrance fees for the Etna (30€ per person for the cheapest option) and the Taormina antic theatre. We didn't have much time on the sites (2h at the Etna and 1h in Taormina) but honestly that was expectable given how far it is from Palermo. We spent overall a good 8-9h in the bus this day, that's a concession you have to be aware of when booking this activity. To my opinion it was very much worth it and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get out of Palermo for a day.

We did the Etna and Taormina tour last week and it was really a great and impressive experience! A bit tiring as it was a long day. But when do you have the opportunity to get so close to an active volcano? In addition, our guide Caterina was super nice and could tell a lot about Sicily! I would do the tour again...

It is an excursion that in the end you have to spend 68 euros more when you get to the Etna volcano (Cable car + buses to the craters + guide) otherwise you do not see anything. They only give you one hour to visit Taormina, in which you don't have time to eat or visit any monument
