Full description
Meet with your tour guide at the lobby of your hotel and drive to Pamukkale. Along the way, feast your eyes on the beautiful Turkish Villages, with views of the lush olive trees. Pamukkale, located in the province of Denizli, is a natural wonder comprised of terraces and travertine formed by hot springs and streams depositing carbonate minerals. Pamukkale has gained eminence for its waters believed to have curative powers and it has been used as a thermal bath for centuries. Noted for its extraordinary characteristics, the ancient site was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988. Located near to Pamukkale, Hierapolis was established in 200 BC by Eumenes II. Hierapolis is an ancient site that attracts worldwide attention for its majestic buildings and monuments. The ancient city of Hierapolis has lost its Hellenistic façade as a result of a series of earthquakes and gained a new facade reflecting the influences of Roman architecture during the reconstruction period. Among the major cities of the Byzantine period, Pamukkale became a crucial site to Christianity after one of the apostles of Jesus; St Phillip was murdered in this city. The city which fell under the rule of the Turks in the 9th Century still preserves its value and significance as on its very first day, which you will discover on this tour.

The Tour Guide and the Driver were great. Super English. We were well treated and the tour information was professionally presented. The guide and driver took us to their favorite lunch spot (delicious and inexpensive). And, they were considerate about asking about needs (food, water, bathroom, etc). The drive is long from Izmer. That's the downside. Now that I have been, it's hard to justify the time it took (but this is just me as I have been to many mineral baths). There is a museum and ruins to visit, and our guide did a very good job putting in context the importance of Pamukkale and its place in history. I recommend our guide and our driver. HANDS DOWN!
