Paphos: Regional Wineries Tour with Wine Tastings

6. Paphos: Regional Wineries Tour with Wine Tastings

Embark on a wine excursion of Cyprus' Paphos region on a guided tour by minivan. Visit four small, privately owned wineries that specialize in the production of original varietal and blended wines. Taste local wines and learn about the wine tradition of the region. See first-hand how the limited production of local wines makes these unique products even more precious. At each winery you visit, see how the wine is made before savoring a tasting. Firstly, go to Katikas Village to walk in the vineyards and visit the Vassilikon Winery — one of the oldest in the area. It covers around 4,000-square-meters, including the production area, cellars, bar, and wine museum. Learn about the 350,000 bottles of wine that are bottled here each year. Next, head to the village of Lemony, where the Tsangaridis family winery is lost amongst vineyards and old rustic buildings. This is a new generation winery where old traditions are combined with new technologies. Then, head to Strumbi Village to visit the Kamanterena Winery. Established in 1974, it is a wine cooperative that brings together some 10,000 families from 144 vineyards. Over the years, the winery has continually participated in wine fairs and has earned several prestigious awards. Finally, visit the Vuni Panaya Winery, tucking into a fresh lunch at your leisure after your tasting. This winery has been in existence since 1987 and has a good range of wines, its own museum, and a restaurant. Buy a few bottles to savor once you're back home and thinking of the glorious days you spent on this small but cozy Mediterranean island.

From Paphos: Sunset Drink at Aphrodite's Rock & Folk Dinner

9. From Paphos: Sunset Drink at Aphrodite's Rock & Folk Dinner

Tasty meze, music and dancing – this trip has all the ingredients for a right old Cypriot night. And if that wasn't enough, it all comes after sunset at Aphrodite's Rock – birthplace of the mythical goddess of love. Alexia, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘At the taverna, you'll get together with the locals and feel their culture and dance. Nothing is better than the 100% authentic cuisine cooked by the women of the village, just like they cook at home.' Join us for a knees-up to remember in one of the area's most popular tavernas. We'll kick off with a short drive towards Petra tou Romiou – as Aphrodite's Rock is known locally. Watch the sun sink over this mythical sea stack and burnish the sky while sipping on a sparkling wine. ‘A celebration in honour of the goddess,' as Alexia says. You'll then head to the village of Kouklia, a short drive inland from the coast, for a Cypriot dinner with a difference. A first sight, it's a typical family-run taverna. You'll get to savour just about every Cypriot dish you could possibly wish for. The emphasis is on pure ingredients and traditional meze – cooked the way they've been for generations – washed down with local wines. But in summer evenings, the family takes over the street, hosting feasts of folkloric music and dancing. Let your hair down and join the locals with some boogying and shaking on the outdoor terrace. As nights out go, it's a showstopper.

It was a great and easy way to explore Cyrus! Our tour guide was amazing and all of the food was delicious!! She took us to prominent cypriot locations and indulged us in its history. Her knowledge of the region only bolstered her credibility and our appreciation.

Highly recommend this day trip! The communication from the tour company, our guide Theodora and the selection of local food and wine stops were all excellent. I would do this again in one of the other regions on the island on my next visit.
