Full description
Explore the beautiful Normandy countryside on a full-day tour of the D-Day landing sites, and discover the rich traditions of Normandy at a typical cider and Calvados farm. The tour departs Paris for the historical battlefields and leanding beaches along the coast, including the Utah Beach Museum, housed in an original German bunker on the very beach where the first American troops landed. Learn about the complicated planning behind Operation Overlord, and hear touching stories of ordinary men and women whose actions shaped the face of Europe as we know it today. The museum also offers unparalleled views over Utah Beach and is home to one of the only remaining B-26 airplanes in the world. Stop at a traditional cider-making orchard, and taste the ciders and Calvados (apple brandy) typical to the region in a 17th-century barn. Next, enjoy a Norman-style lunch of freshly prepared seasonal produce in a restaurant overlooking the port of Grandcamp Maisy. After lunch, travel to Pointe du Hoc to see the German cliff-top defense that was heroically taken by US Rangers during the D-Day landings. Overlooking the English Channel, the site remains much as it was over half a century ago, with original German fortifications and the crater scars of bombs. Pay your respects to the fallen at the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, located on a bluff overlooking Omaha Beach. Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., son of President Roosevelt, and a Medal of Honor recipient, is buried here, along with almost 10,000 soldiers.

The weather was a problem which greatly deflated the tour. The guides Sinse & Addie were hard working & did their job. I understand that canceling the tour is not economically an option, ame conditionshowever; we literally wasted our day. We could have watched a movie with same results. To meet as early as 7 am. I would pay an extra fee for a boxed breakfast. Rest stops were subpar & lunch was not good. Under same conditions I would have cancelled.

This was a very long day, but we knew what we were signing up for. My husband and I wished we had more time at the Utah Museum. We just ran through it knowing we had other things to do around Utah Beach. Another hour here would have been perfect. To see Pointe du Hoc and to now understand how hard it was for the Rangers to get to their objective was something to see. We enjoyed our little stop at the apple cider farm. Learning the history of the farm and how the various ciders are prepared was interesting. The lunch was outstanding. Everyone at our table selected the cod prepared in the way a Normandy family would have it. The cod and dessert were delicious. Seeing Omaha Beach and the cemetery was very moving. Just to see the cemetery is something you must do. Brad, our guide, was outstanding. He made our tour both interesting and informative. There is so much to see in this area. My husband and I would like to make a trip to the Normandy area and spend a few days there.

A very long day, but worth it. We got to see Utah Beach, Pointe du Huc, Omaha Beach and the American Cemetary on a picture perfect day. Very informative and emotional experience. Lunch was included and it was quite tasty. Our guide - George - was a young man from Greece who spoke perfect English and was very nice and helpful. The mini-bus was comfortable and the ride scenic. My only suggestion for the tour company is to skip the trip to the cider farm. While is was charming to meet a very nice local family that produce cider, it has nothing to do with D-Day and was quite honestly boring. A 14 hour day could be cut down to 13 hours, and believe me that hour less would be much appreciated at the end of such a long day. Otherwise, it's a trip worth taking.
