Full description

Explore the beautiful Normandy countryside on a fully guided day trip of the D-Day landing sites, and discover the rich traditions of Normandy at a typical cider and Calvados farm. The tour departs Paris for the historical battlefields and landing beaches along the coast, including the Utah Beach Museum, housed in an original German bunker on the very beach where the first American troops landed.

Learn about the complicated planning behind Operation Overlord, and hear touching stories of ordinary men and women whose actions shaped the face of Europe as it is known today. The museum also offers unparalleled views over Utah Beach and is home to one of the only remaining B-26 airplanes in the world. Enjoy a Norman-style lunch of freshly prepared seasonal produce in a restaurant overlooking the port of Grandcamp Maisy. Next, stop at a traditional cider-making orchard, and taste the ciders and Calvados (apple brandy) typical to the region in a 17th-century barn. After that, travel to the Pointe du Hoc to see the German cliff-top defense that was heroically taken by US Rangers during the D-Day landings. Overlooking the English Channel, the site remains much as it was over half a century ago, with original German fortifications and the crater scars of bombs. Pay your respects at the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, located on a bluff overlooking Omaha Beach. Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., son of President Roosevelt, and a Medal of Honor recipient, is buried here, along with almost 10,000 soldiers.

Very moving experience for all of us. This was our first visit to Normandy, and we were glad to be able to give our 15yo the experience. History is a favorite subject of his. This visit was almost overwhelming in the detail of D day and the months following June 6. The cemetery was heartbreaking. Our guide was knowledgeable and delivered the information with appropriate gravitas, while offering colorful and sometime humorous details. Just wish there had been more time to longer and take in the experience.

This trip is a must do if you’re visiting Paris. Our guide was wonderful, and the trip and seeing such an important historical place is something we will never forget. We took our teenagers with us, and they enjoyed it as well. It is a very long day, but a once in a lifetime opportunity. I do wish we had more time in the museum (first stop at Utah Beach), but the drive there and back is so long that I understand why the itinerary is condensed the way it is. As a side note, I made a mistake in the date that I booked, but John was still able to accommodate us for the day we showed up. We were so grateful to be able to have this experience and share it with our children!

I’m a French teacher from Michigan and I have done many, many student trips, always with a professional tour organization. This time I wanted to do all the arrangements myself. I have never heard of Get Your Guide or Paris City Visions before so I was rather about nervous booking this tour for my large group. Throughout the process, the GYG & PCV teams were extremely prompt about responding to my questions. The guide (Iman) was efficient, informative and fun. I other than the mediocre lunch (it was cold), I would highly recommend this company. I booked a second tour for Versailles and, due to a worker’s strike, we had to reschedule. This process was a bit confusing as we were already in Paris and communication was not easy. Ana helped me negotiate the rebooking. Our tour is tomorrow so, fingers crossed that it will be as wonderfully organized as this one. Thank you for providing peace of mind and this opportunity to visit such remarkable places!
