Learn about the dark history of Poland on this guided tour. Start your tour with pickup by your instructor who will explain to you the sightseeing plan for the day before starting your audio-guided tour of Kazimierz and Podgórze district.   For many centuries, Kazimierz was a place of coexistence and interpenetration of ethnic Polish and Jewish cultures. Its Jewish inhabitants were forcibly relocated in 1941 by the German occupying forces into the Krakow ghetto just across the river in Podgórze. Today, Kazimierz is an important center of cultural life in the city. Explore Plac Bohaterów Getta, Ghetto Heroes Square, 6 synagogues, Szeroka Street, and more. The last stop on your tour will be a 2-hour visit to Oskar Schindler’s Factory. This museum tells the story of Oskar Schindler and the fate of the Jews during wartime in Krakow. Using vast archival documents, photos, radio and film recordings, period artifacts, and dynamic media installations, you’ll delve even deeper into the darker sides of Krakow’s history.

Learn about the everyday lives of the Jewish community before and during World War II. In a tour of a maximum of 12 people, you will learn about the beginning of Nazi occupation, the first resettlements and the harsh conditions of life in the ghetto. The tour starts in Kazimierz where you will see the Jewish Quarter, the center of Jewish life until the beginning of World War II. Oskar Schindler's factory, featured in Stephen Spielberg's oscar-winning film "Schindler's List," employed thousands of Jews and saved approximately 1200. Next, walk through the streets of Podgórze and see the evidence of the gruesome events that took place during World War II. See a part of the undestroyed wall surrounding the ghetto, houses where thousands of displaced Jews used to live, the pharmacy "Under the Eagle," and the Empty Chair Monument in the Heroes' Square, with its symbolic 68 chairs.
