It remained like this for 90 years before work commenced again in 1272 but was halted once more in 1284 when Pisa was defeated in battle. The 7th floor was completed in 1319 with the bell chamber finally being added in 1372. The top of the tower can be reached by climbing the 294 steps which rise in the form of a spiral on the inner side of the tower walls (pre-booked tickets recommended at EUR 18 per person). What people are saying about Pisa

We booked just the transfer from La Spezia. Excellent coach, driver and guide. It would have saved a lot of worry if the instructions for the meet stated that it was just outside the cruise terminal. Be warned it is a long hot walk from the coach to the tower. (Not the coach companies fault).

The organization was perfect. The bus was clean and the bus driver was very nice. Our guide Alex spoke very good English and even gave us all his cell phone numbers in case something should happen before we get back to the bus. Everything went just as booked!

Martina was a great guide who kept everyone together despite the 38-degree heat. The tour was fast paced but very enjoyable and we managed to see the highlights as well as travel to Pisa. Highly recommended.

When we booked the excursion, we thought we’d get a bus ride to our tours but not only that our tour guide also pointed out historic sites. We felt it was very well worth the money

Great time management and Martina was a. Excellent guide.
