3. From Sarajevo: Mostar and Cities of Herzegovina Day Tour

The starting point is usually in front of Info Bosnia Tourist Information Center located on main pedestrian street Ferhadija, just next to "Sarajevo Meeting of Cultures", but can be arranged from elsewhere, if requested. The first stop of the day is a short visit to Konjic, a unique, prehistorically inhabited place from which Herzegovina originates. It is famous for its 17th century 6-arch Old Bridge and a perfect introduction to the emerald-green Neretva river. Continue towards the beautiful medieval and Ottoman stone-constructed fortified village Počitelj. On your arrival, take an easy hike towards the Kula, a silo-shaped fort overlooking the village from the top of the hill. It was used to house watchmen and military as a guard against possible intrusions from the Neretva valley. After a short hike, continue your way to Blagaj. This city is situated at the source of the Buna river, Europe’s most powerful, clean and drinkable river spring. After Pocitelj enjoy lunch at the banks of river Buna just a few kilometers away from Blagaj. Under the shade of trees, listening to the sound of the river, enjoy a local trout with the traditional desert "smokvara". After a nice meal, it is time to visit the best part of your journey, the city of Mostar. Mostar has long been known for its old Turkish houses and Old Bridge. The historic part of Mostar is a result of interaction between the natural phenomena and human creativity throughout a long historical period. The architecture here presents a symbol of tolerance: a shared life of Muslims, Christians, and Jews. Focus at Mostar’s Old Bridge, Old Bazaar, and Old Town, and hear stories of Mostar’s uniqueness and cosmopolitan heritage. After Mostar it is time to say goodbye to Herzegovina. Head back to your accommodation in Sarajevo in just over 2 hours.

What people are saying about Počitelj

There are really no proper words to describe this magical journey traversing through Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our tour guide Tina was top notch! Our driver was spectacular too. He knew the roads and shortcuts. Each stop was fabulous although Mostar takes the cake in my book. I kept pinching myself all day long asking questioning am I truly experiencing the wonders of this country? I am truly blessed to have witnessed what I did and heard about the history of this country. Thanks for the terrific experience. Oh and NO wait time at borders either direction. Just the time it took to give the border police all our passports. Super fast and easy.

I had a fantastic day exploring Mostar and areas nearby, including Kravica, Počitelj and Vrelo Bune with ending at a spectacular viewing point. Anel was an excellent guide with vast knowledge about the region and history, always happy to answer any questions. I do recommend the day trip if you are still wondering, you won’t regret it!

Amazing day trip from Dubrovnik. Our tour guide recommended we switch to the kravice waterfalls so we did that instead, which I think was much better. We saw two villages including Mostar and had an amazing tour guide there, who gave us a great insight into the history. The kravice waterfalls were beautiful and a great end to the day.

Great day. All 3 stops are lovely, particularly Mostar. Given only 8 people you get to meet and chat to everyone. Guide was great fun and very knowledgeable. A great way to see another country while visiting Dubrovnik for a few days.

Great chaufeur and guide who enjoys sharing his knowledge of the former Yugoslavia
