This 8-hour tour takes you from the towns of Angoulême or Saintes, for an immersion into the discreet world of Cognac with its famous brands, craft cognac producers and their side businesses. You will tour with an English speaking "Cognac Educator", certified by the "Cognac Interprofession Association - BNIC", who will take you from the vine to the glass, through the rich history of this region whose marks can still be seen in the architecture and scenery. You will visit a famous Cognac brand where you are explained the various stages involved in producing a cognac, and then taste some of the products with a explanation on how to taste a cognac, and how to pair it with some food. You will meet local people and craft distillers, whose families have produced Cognacs for generations. They will welcome you to their estate and distillery, disclose some local secrets, and let you taste some of their family's production. Thus, you will be able to touch on the meaning of "give time to time". By visiting this family estate, you will understand the different philosophies leading the production of cognac. Also, you will visit a traditional cooperage. Agnes was an excellent guide, friendly and very knowledgeable. The tour had the perfect mix of walking and standing and we ended up knowing so much more about La Rochelle, past and present and really getting a good feel for it. Brilliant!
