Full description
Designed for hungry minds and people mindful of their time, this 2.5-hour private tour of Pompeii offers an ideal chance to explore and understand the Greco-Roman city destroyed by the nearby Vesuvius volcano in 79 AD. One of Italy’s best preserved archaeological sites, Pompeii was a typical Roman village until a sudden eruption by Vesuvius buried it under 6 meters of ash and wiped it off the map. The tragedy left an important historical legacy that today gives an incredible glimpse into what life was like in Ancient Rome for its citizens. Led by an archaeologist, you will get a full picture of how the streets looked. See amazing mosaics and murals, and walk around the public baths that were constructed with central heating and saunas at a time when the rest of Europe was still living in mud huts. Guides are current archaeologists, or members of some of the first teams that worked on the larger part of the excavations of the city. They will share some amazing anecdotes, discoveries and stories about Pompeii and its surroundings.
