Inside this town, in a beautiful landscape, in a flat area we find the Domus de Janas of Corongiu and the necropolis called De S'acqua Salida, dating back to 3200 BC. Still well preserved, they are a beautiful example of Pre-Nuragic architecture. In particular, the small but very important Domus of Corongiu still has spiral-shaped engravings that would represent the goddess of the eyes who protected the dead. But many other interpretations and interesting discoveries preserve the Domus de Janas of Pimentel that you can discover with our fascinating tour.

Dorgali: Trek to Gorropu with Panoramic Views

10. Dorgali: Trek to Gorropu with Panoramic Views

Meet your guide in Orosei or Dorgali before starting the adventure with some off-road driving to descend into the valley where the trek path begins. The hike starts with some water wading through the Flumineddu river to enter the woodland area formed of Old Oaks, Arbutus and Mediterranean shrubs. Walk along the cliffs of Monte Oddeu and arrive at the entrance to the Gorroppu gorge in less than 2 hours. Admire the incredible rocky walls which rise for more than 400 meters over the dry river bed, making this gorge one of the deepest canyons in Europe. Today the canyon is a natural border between the Italian territories of Urzulei and Orgosolo. The canyon was formed when the Flumineddu river excavated the Jurassic limestone that formed when Sardinia was covered by the sea. Learn from your guide how the marine rocks are full of fossils from ammonites, fish and algae found in the area, and hopefully catch a glimpse of such an artifact. During the trek, discover the unique micro climate of the canyon that allowed the giant growth of the trees including the Phyllirea and the Old Yew. As you continue on the hike, the path becomes harder and harder, you may have to use your hands to proceed through the boulders. When it is no longer possible to go further, it’s time to head back.

What people are saying about Province of Nuoro

Excellent day. Very relaxing. We saw 3 beautiful beaches for over 1.5 hours each that you cannot reach unless on a boat. We saw many natural beautiful features on the Sardinian coast, and our guide was excellent, he was great fun and impressively could speak most European languages pretty well! Would highly recommend it, just make sure you pick a nice sunny day and bring a warm jumper for the boat home.

Really worth every penny! The beaches can only be reached by boat and are therefore not overcrowded. I would do it again anytime :-)
