This half-day horseback excursion includes approximately 2 hours of riding throughout the mountain range just above Puerto Plata. Approximately 1000 ft above the city, there are breathtaking views over the Bay of Silver where, centuries ago, Columbus arrived by ship. Firstly, you will travel by safari truck to the old mountain road which slowly climbs up the mountains, dotted with small local farms and amber and larimar mines. There is also an abundance of coconut palms, sparkling rivers, and tropical flowers. Stepping off the truck, you'll find the horses saddled up ready to take you gently through lush green fields, river beds, and small streams. You will smell, feel, and be immersed in a natural setting outside of the fast pace of life in the big city. After the tour ends, you will be dropped back at your hotel.

A natural juice will also be prepared to boost you with fresh energy. On a relaxing countryside horseback ride you can enjoy some breathtaking views. The horses are well-trained, fed and in the best of health. The horseback ride included in this package is meant to be for beginners and children as well. Sufficient time will be taken to provide full, basic riding instructions. With beginners and children, you will not gallop with the horses, if not requested otherwise. Depending on riding skills and experience, the right horse will be found for everybody. Now it's time for a delicious home-cooked lunch, before taking a walk through a tropical garden. The group will head back to the hotels or cruise port in the early afternoon.

What people are saying about Puerto Plata

Excellent trip!

The guides were all super fun and very nice and helpful, and they made sure that we all had smiles on our faces and that we truly enjoyed ourselves. It is also clear that they care for their animals, and their zipline course was also put together very well. I definitely recommend this activity.

We had a great time. We chose the longer horse back ride to the beach and being inexperienced it left me sore but that is part of trotting on a horse. The zip lines do involve a little walking and climbing but are more than worth the effort.
