Full description

Embark on an evening trip to see the Aurora Borealis. Hear fascinating facts about them from your guides, visit the Aurora Museum, and search to see the lights firsthand.

Depart the bright lights of Reykjavík city center to see the dancing lights of the Aurora Borealis. Also known as the “Northern Lights,” it is one of the most spectacular shows during winter months. Head for wherever meteorologists have predicted the lights will be at their best. To get stunning views of the sky you will aim for areas with no artificial light.

Hear explanations of how the Aurora Borealis is caused as a result of the gaseous particles in the earth’s atmosphere colliding with charged particles released from the sun’s atmosphere. Benefit from an itinerary that includes stops for you to go outside and take photographs. The locations visited differ from day to day, but you will head in the direction with the most chance of seeing Mother Nature at work.

As the tour is weather-dependent, and sightings are not guaranteed, you are also invited to join another Northern Lights tour free of charge if the lights don’t appear.  Explore the Northern Lights in the Aurora Museum. The Northern Lights tour includes a complimentary ticket for a self-guided visit to the museum in Reykjavik, valid on the day you join the tour, from the time you receive confirmation that the tour is on.

Includes
  • Evening trip to see the Aurora BorealisTransportation
  • Professional guide
  • Stops to take photos
  • Entry to the Aurora Museum (on the day of the tour only)
  • Free entry to another tour if the Northern Lights do not appear

If you wanna see them, you just now it’s a matter of luck. A lot of variables are involved. We were funny enough to see 1-hour long of strong northern lights, but the guide told us it was exceptional. If you wanna book, I’d recommend to do it at the last moment. When you get to Iceland, ask in any other of your tours if there’s gonna be a chance to see them. That was what I did and it went perfectly!!

The first day it was cloudy and we did not see anything. But i rebooked for the next day and we had quite a nice activity! The guide, Martin, was very nice and he put in extra effort to take pics of me when i asked him. He also let us stay a bit longer because the aurora intensifies towards the end of the tour. Tip: bring a good camera and a good tripod, you will need to take long exposure pics and not move for 10 sec!!!

Martin was very informative. The bus was full, but very well organized. They arrived on time. Called out each group one at a time , and boarded. Drove about an hour out to the city for first location. Then another 30 mins and saw nothing. Had a cloudy day and chances were slim. But on our way back, lo and behold miracle indeed. Saw the northern lights form right in front of us. We literally chasing the lights and found her. Worth the effort and Martin was so excited when he saw it, like it was the first time. He really wanted us to see it and we were excited to see it. Worth every penny indeed. Martin and our driver were very informative and we had a safe /warm /exciting viewing of Northern Lights!!
