Full description
The tour takes you to hike through the Tijuca Rainforest, one of the biggest urban forests on the planet, on this off the beaten track circuit of trails to discover the nature and beauty of the jungle, reaching the Taquara Hill (814m=2670ft). This peak is a 100m higher than the Christ Redeemer statue, and on clear days, you have 2 amazing views: one to the valley of the forest and another to the West part of Rio, its coastline and lagoons. After that, you will go to a deeper part of the jungle following a trail that is almost secret as it is very rare to see other people doing it. Within 1 hour of hiking up and downhill, you will reach the ruins of an old coffee farm and, with a bit more walking, you will reach a grotto and a cave in the middle of the rainforest. After this, you head to a waterfall where you can refresh yourself (bring a towel and bathing suit). This trail circuit was designed by experts in the Tijuca Forest Park using tracks and sites that are not well-known or regularly visited, so you'll be hiking in a very unusual part of the forest. The scenery of this tour is amazing and it has a lot to offer as you are visiting sites that are not featured in most tours. On the way up, you will learn the history of Brazil, Rio, the Tijuca Forest, and everything about the coffee farms that used to occupy that area before the reforestation that happened in the 1800's.

A day and a magnificent, colorful ride! Tito excellent guide who introduces the history of the country before departure. Roberto his sidekick is also very complementary. We were 6 plus the 2 guides, perfect number for this type of day. Arrival at the top spectacular with breathtaking views of Rio.

One of the highlights of our trip to Rio was the full day hike to the Tijuca National Park. Our guide, Alex was fun and knowledgeable and went out of his way to point out curiosities, while maintaining easy conversation and chatting to us like old friends. The forest is enchanting and there’s so much to be seen. I would recommend this experience to everyone who goes to Rio!

Excellent guided hike with outstanding views

This was a superbly well organised hike. Communication was excellent about pick-ups, drop-offs, times, itinerary etc. Lead by Felipe and Alex (two enthusiastic guides), the hike was fun and they gave interesting points about the diverse wildlife and forestry habitat as we walked. There was a wide variety of trees, plants and landscape features to see, including waterfalls and a cave with the highlight being a view from the top of the surrounding west side of Rio de Janeiro. Some parts of the climb were fairly strenuous as there were stretches were the gradient was steep and it required careful footing. But nevertheless every part of the walk felt safe. It was great having the opportunity to take a lesser traversed trail past the walls of old coffee farms. A remarkable unforgettable day in the company of a fun welcoming pair of guides and group. I highly recommend it, if you wish to see the landscape around Rio and take in some breathtaking views.
