Full description

Travel from Rome to Pompeii in an air-conditioned private bus, accompanied by an archaeologist guide. Benefit from skip-the-line entry and enjoy a guided tour of the ancient city. Throughout the ruins, come across a death cast, a plaster recreation of an unfortunate citizen preserved by the superheated volcanic ash. After visiting Pompeii, drive up the slope of Mt. Vesuvius, one of Europe’s few active volcanoes located in the Vesuvius National Park. From here, take a short hike up to the steaming crater for stunning views of Capri and Sorrento. When Mt. Vesuvius is closed, your tour will follow the coastline and take you to the city of Naples. Explore the iconic Castle Nuovo, the famous art deco Umberto I Gallery, or simply wander around the monumental Plebiscito Square.

The trip was fantastic from start to finish. Our transport guide Chiara was one of a kind. She clearly loves her job, so much so where you just feel transfixed on everything she has to say. The drive was a little under 3.5 hours each way and honestly, it felt like no time at all once she started divulging. Seeing Pompeii is completely surreal. I didn’t realise how much there was to see; there is an entire city worth of excavated ruins; truly remarkable. You walk down stone pathways that people from Pompeii once walked down… 2500 years ago. Our guide Mikeile took our group on a well informed route through the ruins. He was an absolute wealth of knowledge and clearly loves his job. One of the smaller highlights as well was getting to stop in Naples on the way back. What a crazy beautiful and eccentric city it is - quite hard to put in to words. Chiara walked us to the main square and shared some local places that should be investigated. Well worth the money and time.

Rob who is our tour guide is amazing! The tour is under city wonders and this is my second time with them. It didn’t disappoint at all. When we reached Pompei, local guide Michele was good as well! They are knowledgable and fun! Would join city wonder tour in a heart beat again!

Pompeii is not to be missed. This is a long day, but so worth it. The guides were excellent and made the journey interesting. We stopped at Cassino for breakfast and toilet breaks each way and Naples on the return leg to explore after Pompeii. I really recommend City Tours, having done two tours with them this trip. The guides are excellent and keen to impart personal experiences and their knowledge is fantastic. Really recommend!
