Full description

Indulge in all things Ancient Roman on this Ancient Appian Way, Catacombs, and Park of the Aqueducts E-bike tour. Ride through the Roman countryside, discover the engineering genius of the ancient Romans, and delve into the early Christian history that shaped the world to come.

Meet your guide and leave the city through St. Sebastian's gate in the Aurelian Walls, and enter the Ancient Appian Way - a 2,400-year old thoroughfare that tells the story of Rome's rise, golden age, and decline.

In the 6-hour version of the tour, make a stop underground at the Catacombs of St. Callixtus (or St. Sebastian) for a guided visit through its crypts and corridors (the 4.5-hour version of the tour will include an outdoor stop in the Catacombs area). Next, cycle further on the Appian Way, passing mausoleums, tombstones, and sprawling villas of ancient aristocracy.

Finally, head to the Park of the Aqueducts, where stretches of colossal arches rise against the warm afternoon light. After following these aqueducts back to modern civilization, cross the green Caffarella Valley. At its exit, you will begin your short ride back to the starting point - but not without one last highlight.

This was my favorite experience we had in Rome. It was wonderful to get out of the bustling city center into a more natural setting. Riding the e-bikes was a blast. And the whole experience had us in awe of the scope and scale of Rome’s ancient past. Our guide Khaled was friendly helpful and informative. I high recommend this tour for active people with some cycling experience.

We did the 6-hr Appian Way bike trip. Family of 4 including sons ages 18 and 12. Absolutely best thing we did in Rome. Loved it. I’m an overweight woman in my 50’s and have arthritis, and I don’t regularly ride or even exercise, but the trip was easy due to the “turbo” electric assist. There is crazy traffic everywhere, but the guides kept us safe. Chris shared so much fascinating history & was an overall amazing guide. We all loved this so much.

This trip was fantastic and Fabio was an AMAZING guide!! He was so knowledgeable about the history of the aqueducts and kind and patient with us all. He made sure we stayed together and always made sure our safety was assured. This tour was a much more challenging bike tour than I was expecting and we did bike down busy Roman streets, and hilly dirt areas that were sometimes rocky or wirh very, very slender bike paths, so I would say that this is something more for intermediate bikers. I wasn’t one and still managed fine but I do think it could be scary at times for beginner bikers. The e-bikes definitely helped a lot on the uphill dirt climbs and the steep down hill slopes. The catacombs were beautiful and took you back in time 1,800 years ago to see what it was like for early Christian’s living in secret in Rome. And the aquaduct s were beautiful to see to appreciate the history and ingenuity behind Roman engineering. Highly recommend this and you’re lucky if you get Fabio!!
