Full description

Depart from Salzburg and get amazing views of Austria's lake district as you travel by coach to the beautiful town of Hallstatt. On the way, you will pass Lake Fuschl, where the headquarters of a world-famous energy drink are located, and make a quick photo stop of the magnificent view over the town of St. Gilgen, Lake Wolfgang, and the surrounding mountains of the Salzkammergut. Afterward, you will continue your trip along Lake Wolfgang and be astonished by the beauty of the UNESCO World Heritage landscape. Enjoy insightful commentary about the region from your onboard guide.

Pass through a number of charming villages on the 1.5-hour drive to Hallstatt. Once you arrive in Hallstatt, have 2.5 hours of free time to explore the breathtaking city and the surroundings. You can then visit the ossuary or “bone-house”, and take a look at its more than 1000 painted human skulls, or take a funicular ride up to the entrance of the world’s oldest salt mine and enjoy the breathtaking view from an observation platform, right above the town.

If you just want to enjoy the atmosphere of Hallstatt, take a leisurely walk along the lake, and marvel at how the houses above you seem to cling onto the mountainside. Your trip will end by making your way back, passing through the Rußbach valley and the towns of Gosau and Abtenau which are famous for their stunning views of the Dachstein mountain range, before arriving back to your starting point in Salzburg.

The trip was great! We had 30 min delay, though is was forgotten by what came after - The town was beautiful! but the way there and back was the best for me. They thought about everything to make it as full as possible, with 2 different beautiful ways to the town and back. The views were incredible, the bus rides were an attraction one his own. The guide was a wonderful, calming elderly German men, that gave nice facts and stories along the way. A mandatory tour if you near by!

The highlight was Hallstätt and this was an incredible place to be. The only downside is the limited amount of time (2.5 hours) which is not enough if you want to do all the activities and visit all the nice viewpoints. The rest of the tour was average with nice scenery during the drive and a good stop at Wolfgang lake however not much else going on. All in all, it was a good tour!

Fantastic tour. We took the advice of a previous reviewer and sat on the left hand side of the bus. the views were amazing. The guide was an elderly German man who knew his facts and had a great sense of humor. We would recommend bringing something to eat with you as to not lose time in beautiful Hallstatt waiting for food.
