On this half-day tour you'll relive scenes from one of the most popular movies of all time. Visit the locations used during the filming of The Sound of Music in Salzburg and its surrounding countryside. During the tour, you’ll also hear songs from the original soundtrack. Let your guide show you the architectural and historical landmarks of the city and the picturesque Lake District. See Leopoldskron Palace, a place whose exterior was used as the Trapp family home and where the children were seen boating on the lake and jumping into the water. Maria was a novice at Nonnberg Abbey, the oldest convent in German-speaking Europe, and your next stop. The St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang scenes shown at the beginning of the movie were actually filmed at Lake Fuschl, on the way to St. Gilgen, which you'll also see today. The wedding scene was filmed at Mondsee Cathedral, a buttery yellow-and-white edifice where you'll stop on the tour. Maria, led by Liesl, walked down the aisle to meet the baron in front of the stairs of the main altar. After dropping you off in Salzburg at the end of the tour you can visit Mirabell Gardens, located just opposite the tour terminal. Both the musical and film are based on the "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers" written by Maria von Trapp in 1949.  Do follow the traces of the Trapp family and take a tour through Salzburg and its surroundings. See the picturesque Hourse Pond shot in the film and Residence Square's famous Residence Fountain, the most famous fountain in the city, chosen for the I Have Confidence in Me song. On this excursion you will explore Salzburg and its beautiful surroundings on the traces of the world-famous musical “The Sound of Music”. Start your day with a walk through the Mirabell gardens, famous across the world for the Do-Re-Mi scenes filmed here. See the Pegasus fountain, dwarf garden as well as statues from Roman and Greek mythology and stunning, formal patterned flower beds. Drive up to one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the city, immortalised in Do-Re-Mi, with a fantastic view over the entire city of Salzburg and its millennium fortress. Back in your luxury minivan have a photo stop near Maria’s Abbey (Nonnberg Abbey) on your way to Leopoldskron Palace (boat scene and pink lemonade at the terrace). After a short stop at Leopoldskron drive on to the palace of Hellbrunn where you have the chance to visit the original gazebo and gardens. Then, leave the city driving south into the stunning Bavarian mountains where they filmed the opening scene. Now is your chance to spin in a field in the original area from the opening scene of The Hills are Alive. Journey off the beaten track down a scenic country road along the river Salzach and through the narrow gorges of the Lueg pass to Werfen where you will head to the top of the Sound of Music trail, the picnic spot from the movie. Enjoy a short rest here and its magnificent panorama view.  The final part of the tour takes you through the Austrian lake district via the scenic roads, where parts of the opening scene where filmed, and on to the “Sound of Music” wedding cathedral in Mondsee where the romantic wedding scene was filmed.

The 1965 musical The Sound of Music was a worldwide hit, using stunning settings that were as captivating as the storyline itself, and this tour gives you the chance to explore some of them first-hand.  Photo stops at film sites like Leopoldskron Palace, the gazebo in the gardens of Hellbrunn Palace, and time-depending pass by the actual Villa Trapp. The last part of the tour takes you via scenic mountain roads to Mondsee, to visit the cathedral where the romantic wedding in the movie was filmed - a perfect place to end a perfect day.

This tour combines the original locations from the musical "The Sound of Music" with the historical "Eagle's Nest". Your tour starts with a tour of the city including the Palaces Leopoldskron (von Trapp Family House) and Hellbrunn (Sound of Music Pavilion). Hellbrunn Palace is on the way to the Eagle's Nest which will be next. Passing the border to Germany the journey continues to the Sound of Music Meadow (The Hills are alive). Now is your chance to spin in the field, reenacting the opening scene. Head to the "Obersalzberg" which is located at 3000 ft. elevation right below the Eagle's Nest. Access the Eagle's Nest with special busses and an elevator. Admire the scenic view of the Bavarian Mountains, the King's Lake, and the surrounding area of Salzburg. Returning from the Eagle's Nest, continue to the second highlight of our tour, the Salzburg Lake District. Travel through the Wies Valley and further on to Fuschl and St. Gilgen. Take a stunning photo of the castle of Fuschl with emerald Lake Fuschl in the background. The next highlight is Lake Wolfgang and the village St. Gilgen, the scenery of the area was shown at the beginning of "The Sound of Music." Enjoy a view from the "Mozart View Point" to Lake Wolfgang and the "Schafberg" Mountain. Relax and enjoy the countryside on the drive from St. Gilgen to the lake "Mondsee" and further on to the town of Mondsee with the "Sound of Music Wedding Church", from where you make your way back to Salzburg. Your tour ends with a drop-off at your Salzburg hotel or any other location within the city.

The Sound of Music is in English, with explanations in German, Italian, French and Spanish, projected on the wall near the stage. The duration is 1 hour 45 minutes with an intermission between. Opened in 1913, the Salzburg Marionette Theater is one of the world’s oldest marionette theaters and celebrates the city’s long tradition of puppetry. The theater stages a range of productions using a cast of around 500 wooden puppets, from operas and fairy tales to "The Sound of Music" - the 1959 movie that showcased the city and its puppetry. Actually, "The Lonely Goatherd" and the puppet scene in The Sound of Music where inspired by this theatre. The Salzburg Marionette Theatre employs 12 puppeteers, trained in a wide variety of trades and professions. Qualities common to all of them are musicality, manual skill, and the ability to empathise with the various characters in order to bring alive the marionettes on the stage. The Salzburg Marionette Theatre has evolved its own technique, which is used as a model by many marionette theatres worldwide and belongs to the intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO since 2016.
