From Punta Cana: Samana Day Trip

2. From Punta Cana: Samana Day Trip

Samaná is a peninsula located on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic. Full of incredible landscapes and pure nature, it is a member of the World's Most Beautiful Bays Club of UNESCO as well as having been classified as a World Eco-Tourism Paradise. Each year between the months of February and March over 3,500 humpback whales mate in the warm coastal waters just off of the coast of the peninsula. Your tour begins with a boat trip from Miches to the Bay of Samaná, accompanied by a beautiful view. After arriving to your location, you will embark on a horseback trek to the majestic 50-meter high Lemon waterfall, which contains a beautiful natural pool below and is surrounded by lush tropical forest. Following your waterfall tour, you will head on a city tour atop a safari truck through the city of Samaná. Discovered by the navigator Christopher Columbus in 1493, this was the point in which the first hostile meeting between Europeans and natives occurred. Following your city tour, you will sit down for a Dominican buffet lunch in a field restaurant, where you can indulge in a tasting of tropical fruits harvested in the area. After lunch, you will be taken in the safari truck back to the dock, after which you will head to Cayo Levantado or "Bacardi Island". After arriving at this 1-kilometer long island, you can enjoy some refreshing free time on its beautiful beaches complete with clear turquoise water. After this free time, you will be ferried back to the mainland before being dropped off back at your accommodation.

What people are saying about Samaná Province

Amazing! The tour was well organized and the tour gide clearly stated what and when we gonna do what. The local food was tasty, the waterfall horse ride bumpy but the view talks for itself. Bacardi island - wow! Also pineapple picacolada was included. Tips for others: bring long socks for horse ride - they give you boots cuz the way down is messy. A downgrade was horse rider who all asked for tips stating that they dont get any money, which is weird and knowing this country it may be their way of just getting the extra cash, when we wanted to give a guy few dollars he asked to go under a bush so no one could see it.

It was a wonderful day. Very well organized. Food very good and traditional. Because of my pregnancy, we skipped riding and went to the waterfall instead. Personally, I also found it nicer. Riding is not my thing and that way you can experience nature much better. We got a guide for that too. The group only consisted of 6 people, which was very pleasant. We can only recommend the trip, you don't sit in the bus for hours and have more time for the attractions :)

Everything super well organized. There was a tropical storm on the scheduled date and they rearranged everything perfectly for another day. Friendly, efficient ... The theme of the horseback excursion is a bit seedy: there are at least 200 horses (really) and the waterfall is beautiful but there are so many people that it becomes horrible. I recommend reef jet to get around the island as it is fast and cheap.

For the most part we liked the excursion very much, but we have to say that the exit was obviously not that pleasant for the horses. We were very sorry afterwards. The fact that the companions begged for a tip very obtrusively when we left the room was rather ugly. Otherwise, the guide, the drive, the food, the pick-up and also the Barcadi island were very nice and we would say that the money was worth it.

Pretty unique your experience all the way around. From the Narcos style plane flight to the beauty of the waterfall, and with all the little touches that made this tour what it was, I’d highly recommend. Nanó did a great job.
