From Bangkok: Amphawa Floating Markets and Firefly Boat Tour

1. From Bangkok: Amphawa Floating Markets and Firefly Boat Tour

The markets of Thailand are some of the country’s most quintessential experiences; they give you a lively peek inside the more traditional culture of a country that often lives by water (or in this case, by the railroad tracks as well). On this full-day guided tour, you'll be taken to the most iconic markets on the outskirts of Bangkok, ending with a relaxing firefly boat tour to wind down from the day’s excitement. Maeklong Train Market is a fresh market situated right by a well-worn railroad. Watch the vendors expertly close and open their awnings to make room as the trains pass by. Wat Bang Kung is a striking Buddhist temple engulfed by the roots of a massive Banyan Tree. Learn about its bloody battle history and see the Golden Buddha inside. Located on the Amphawa canal, the Amphawa Floating Market is one of Thailand's more popular floating markets. Visit this riverside market and see vendors selling delicious treats like sweets and seafood, or browse some of the shophouses and restaurants. After sunset, when the lights have dimmed, you'll wind down with a relaxing river cruise. Your boat will take you a little further out where it is dark enough to see the fireflies, before heading back to your accommodations at 9:00 PM, ending a day of simple pleasures and tastes with the comforting sight of these lightning bugs.

Book yourself or your group on this personalized 8-hour tour around Bangkok, or venture out to nearby provinces to get a unique insight in to Thai culture with a local. The private tour can be tailored to your interests, whether you want to visit the historic sights or neighborhood lifestyles. Visit the ornate murals of the Grand Palace or take in the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace at Ayutthaya. The Summer Palace is set on lovely grounds on the banks of the Chao Praya River and is one of the best-maintained attractions in Thailand. One of the most popular attractions close to Bangkok, you will feel like a king as you wander through the vast complex. While in Ayutthaya, take in the Historical Park. The Siamese moved their capital to Ayutthaya around 1350 AD and created a royal palace and many impressive monasteries and Wats in the area. In the mid 1800's the Burmese sacked it and the city was abandoned. Now a UNESCO protected World Heritage Site, you can explore the historic temples scattered around the encircling river. If you prefer, head to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and see Thais going about their everyday life in a truly unique setting. Stay in downtown Bangkok to visit sites such as the Khao San Road, Chatuchak Market and reclining Buddha at Wat Pho. Transportation is via the Bangkok skytrain, or by taxi where needed. If you want to venture further afield, you will be taken by comfortable minivan and have the services of a professional driver. Everything can be arranged through your friendly guide, who will take you to the areas most of interest to you and share their expert local knowledge in a fun and fascinating way to make the city your Bangkok.

This was well worth the money. There was some confusion about the pickup and I didn't notice one of the emails gave me two different start times so we got there way too early and thought we missed the tour but turns out they hadn't even met up yet. After that everything was smooth. Our tour guide Angie was awesome, she was funny and informative and spoke english well enough to understand. I read reviews that some of the similar tours didn't give enough time at the railway market to really explore but this one had plenty of time plus we got to see the train come. Angie made sure to take pictures for everyone at all the common photo opportunities, she explained so many items in the stalls at both markets and history of Thailand and the temple we stopped at. This tour included so much that others don't and it cane with Angie so definitely book this.

Our guide Gwen was fantastic. Prior to the day of the tour, we sent our plans for the day to the guide company. The morning of our tour, Gwen sat down with us and finalized our plans for the day. She was always one step ahead, calling to confirm our next stop throughout the day. She recommended additional activities that we had not considered and the day ran so smoothly. Thanks to her help, we were able to see more than we expected during the day. Her English was fantastic and she was incredibly helpful in navigating public transit, learning about Thai food and culture, and helping us communicate. Gwen made the experience very enjoyable, we wouldn't want to tour Bangkok any other way. Would highly recommend!

We didn't get there in time on our planned day. We tried to adjust the unused tickets to the next day at the ticketoffice, but no, we had to buy new tickets for the day after. If we hadn't prepaid we could just bought the tickets for the same price when we got there, so this didn't work for us.

Me defraudó.

bonnie was my tour guide and she was so good!! funny and made sure we got great pics.

Elena was knowledgeable and help us explore the city in a great way.
