Full description
Wander through the ancient groves of coastal redwoods in Muir Woods National Monument and walk along the quaint sidewalks of Downtown Sausalito on this relaxed half-day tour. Muir Woods National Monument is an old-growth redwood forest located only 30 minutes from downtown San Francisco over the Golden Gate Bridge. After a pick-up from a central San Francisco hotel, head north over the bridge and into the Marin Headlands. If the fog is clear, you might get a chance to stop and take some pictures of the bridge up close! When you arrive in Muir Woods, take an hour and a half to roam through this ‘living museum’ where you can glimpse the towering trees that used to dominate the west coast from Santa Barbara to Washington. After exploring Muir Woods, hop back in the coach for a quick ride over to Sausalito. Enjoy a 15-20 minute, narrated in-coach tour through the beautiful seaside Mediterranean-style town, and then some free time to walk around! After about 45 minutes in Sausalito, hop back in the coach for a trip back across the Golden Gate Bridge, or opt for a ferry ride back to San Francisco. You'll be dropped back off at your pick-up point. This half-day tour is a great way to see all the highlights of the northern San Francisco Bay in a limited amount of time.

I really enjoyed every stop and that our tour guide was knowledgeable about each place and landmarks along the way. Muir Woods was fun to get to experience since it was the first time we have seen redwoods. Sausalito was fun to explore too. We had time for a wine tasting and ice cream as well as a short look at the beach. And the stop at the Golden Gate was a sweet stop since we hadn’t seen the gate up close yet in our itinerary. We had a good time and if we did it again we would definitely add Napa as well.

I wish we had more time at Muir Woods to explore further because .with limited time, we weren’t able to stay longer. Our tour guide was great! She was knowledgeable of the history of Muir Woods and Sausalito. The drive going to Muir Woods seemed a little scary at first but our tour guide was an excellent driver! Even in the fog, It was a smooth ride all along. I traveled with my 2 year old and she loved it as well. We chose to take the ferry ride back to fisherman’s wharf instead to enjoy more time at Sausalito. I would recommend taking the ferry back if you’re planning on having a sit in lunch or doing other activities there.i overall, a good tour for families with kids.

Very efficient/cost effective way too see Muir Woods. The ride to the Woods was harrowing - but well executed! Would have preferred a Muir Woods tour without Sausalito. I know time in the Woods is limited by the park, but perhaps a bus only excursion to other coastal redwood stands could be added.
