By carrying out this activity you will be able to visit the famous section of the descent of the Sella river between Arriondas and Llovio, a section known worldwide due to the International Descent of the Sella, which is held on the first weekend of August, and is attended by canoeists from many countries. The classic route of the descent of the Sella by canoe consists of 15 km. The exit to the river is in Arriondas and the end of the route is the town of Llovio, very close to Ribadesella. It is not necessary to complete the entire route, since halfway through, right at kilometer 7.5, there is a collection point for all those participants who want to finish the descent there. At either of the two pick-up points, participants will be taken back to the facilities, where they can change and shower in peace.

Start your Sella River canoeing adventure on a 500-meter practice stretch before getting to the good stuff in Arriondas, the most heart-pumping fun you’ll find along this river. Continue on for another 8 kilometers to Toraño or the extra 15 kilometers to Llovio, depending on what option you’ve selected and how much of the beautiful landscape you want to experience. During the summer, these sections don’t have as many rapids or canoe traffic. If you’re with family, the first section from Las Rozas to Arriondas, which lasts about 1 to 2 hours, might be the perfect stretch for you during the summer months. During the spring, this stretch is more for those seeking adventure.

5. Arriondas: Canoeing Adventure Descent on the Sella River

Explore the Sella by canoe on this guided canoeing trip from Arriondas. No previous experience is necessary, as there is a quick canoeing tutorial at the beginning of the tour. Have all the equipment you need paddle safely on the river.  Check-in and make your way to the activity provider's jetty which is strategically located in Arriondas next to the Arriondas Bridge where the famous Dionisio de la Huerta opened in 1931.  Use the changing rooms and gear up with a well-maintained paddle and canoe. Listen as your guide gives you step-by-step instructions on how to navigate your canoe. Set out on this calm river, which is suitable for families with children over the age of 6.  Start in Arriondas, an island village, and end in Ribadesella, a coastal village at the mouth of the Sella River. Soak up the atmosphere of lively beach bars and keep an eye out for wildlife like colorful birds.  Reach the end of your trip and be picked up and transferred back to your starting point in Arriondas.

The activity starts between 11 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon (you choose a time to start) There are three stops to finish the activity: the first stop at 7km (two and a half hours paddling), the second at 14km (three and a half hours paddling), and the last one at 17km (approximately four hours). Pick ups begin at 2 in the afternoon at the official stops. We will bring you back to activity base by bus or van. You can be in the river, doing the activity, until 6 pm It is essential to know how to swim

Recommendable !! Friendly, fast and attentive. We arrived at the last stop of the sella, and they picked us up practically as soon as we arrived, because each one has a rhythm and you call them to come for you. They give you your canoe, vest, paddle, a drum to store your belongings, and they give you a brief explanation of its use and the route.
