South Coast Classic: Full-Day Tour from Reykjavik

1. South Coast Classic: Full-Day Tour from Reykjavik

On this full-day tour, you’ll follow the coastline from Reykjavík into the volcanic and glaciated wonderland that is Iceland's south coast. Walk behind the thundering veil of spray at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and take in the incredible views from the top of the Skógafoss waterfall. Your tour begins with a drive through lava fields, passing by the active Hengill volcano, and then down to rich coastal farmlands. On clear days you’ll be able to see the Hekla volcano, and in the distance the glacier-capped Eyjafjallajökull volcano rises majestically above the coastal mountains. Just a few kilometers off the coastline and easily visible are the volcanic Westman Islands, an archipelago of around 15 small islands, only one of which is inhabited. Stop at the Sólheimajökull glacier, which is every photographer’s dream. Next on the itinerary is the Reynisfjara black sand beach. See the powerful Atlantic waves crashing on the black sands, the jagged basalt sea stacks and the huge basalt-column cave. Next you’ll head to the coastal village of Vik, the southernmost village in Iceland, located on the island’s main ring road. Despite its small size (291 inhabitants), it is the largest settlement for 70 kilometers. On your way back to Reykjavík, you’ll stop by the powerful Skógafoss waterfall for a short walk up a flight of steps to admire one of Iceland´s most scenic views. The view takes in glaciers, volcanoes and black sandy beaches. The last stop is at the 60-meter-high Seljalandsfoss waterfall, best known for the hidden pathway behind and around it.

Private Golden Circle & South Coast tour with 8+Attraction

2. Private Golden Circle & South Coast tour with 8+Attraction

Explore Golden Circle's and South Coast's attractions in one day including Thingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss Waterfall, Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, Skógafoss Waterfall, Black sand beach and explore Vik. 1. Thingvellir National Park is your first stop after leaving Reykjavik. Massive fissures in the Earth's surface can be seen as you look across this amazing terrain. Thingvellir National Park is UNESCO’s World Heritage site with a lot of significance in terms of historical importance. Guess what, this site has the world’s oldest existing parliament. There are crystal-clear lakes and volcanic terrains to enjoy here 2. Your next adventure will take you to Geysir, which is located in the Haukadalur valley geothermal area. The Icelandic term geysir means "gush," and this gushing hot spring is the source of gushers all around the world. Geysir Geothermal Area is a treat for those who always dreamed of witnessing a live hot spring. Located in the Haukadalur Valley, this spot is the oldest known geyser in the world 3. Gullfoss is the next location on the Private Golden Circle tour. Gullfoss (the "Gold Falls"), one of Iceland's most famous waterfalls, is supplied by millions of gallons of frozen meltwater from Langjokull, Iceland's second-largest glacier. Gullfoss Waterfall originates from Langjökull, which is Iceland’s second-largest glacier. There are multiple viewpoints to enjoy the view of this elegant waterfall. What else could travelers ask for in their tour? 4. Seljalandsfoss, Iceland, is our next destination. This spectacular waterfall, which is 66 metres high and allows you to walk around it, is a sight to behold. But be careful: you can end yourself drenched. On a clear day, the Westman Islands or Vestmannaeyjar can be seen from here. 5. Skógafoss Waterfall is our next stop. Observe the massive amounts of water cascading from this waterfall! Skógafoss Waterfall has a width of 25 metres and a height of 60 metres. Enjoy the sound of water cascading down a cliff and, if you're lucky, rainbows generated by the spray of this natural wonder. 6. The black sand beach is our next destination. You may encounter the raw and enticing energy of the North Atlantic and its masterfully sculpted basalt column cliffs in Reynisfjara, or Black Sand Beach. The site is both magnificent and deadly, and it deserves to be handled with a healthy sense of wonder and reverence. 7. Our next stop is Vik, which, despite its small population of around 320 people, has a lot to offer. You can either eat your lunch in one of the restaurants or walk down to the beach to see the famous Reynisdrangar.

What people are saying about Skógar

This was a wonderful tour to see some of Iceland’s waterfalls, a beach and a glacier. Our guide, Raga, was informative and made it entertaining with her sense of humour. The tour included a walk behind a waterfall which was just incredible. The path around the waterfall was slippery and we had to climb over rocks to get to the other side. If you have challenges with walking then this is not for you. Also make sure you are wearing walking boots, otherwise you may find it difficult. It was a very enjoyable tour.

It was a beautiful day regardless of the rainy weather and the clouds reaching almost to the ground at times. Wonderful atmosphere accompanied by wonderful Icelandic nature and a perfect guide man number one. Unforgettable memories for a lifetime. Thank you so much. Jaroslav Bastar, Czech Republic.
