Ascend Mount Stromboli for a once-in-a-lifetime experience on top of a live volcano with a knowledgeable local guide. Start your hike through lush vegetation on the Sentiero Paesistico 250-meter trek, where you’ll already begin to see some craters. At Belvedere point, you’ll be able to see the famous talus scree, or depression, Sciara Del Fuoco. After a 20-minute walk, you’ll reach the observation point for an incredible sunset viewing point. From here, you can witness an incredible natural pyrotechnics show from the volcano. During your trek, your guide will describe the geological history of the Aeolian Islands, as well as describe the local flora and fauna, the lifestyle, and the history of human settlements in the Aeolian.

The trek is super - not difficult. very beautiful views over the sea and the village of Stromboli. Impressive view over the volcano and Sciara del Fuoco. It was very pity that there were no any irruptions when we reached the view point at 400 m. though we were waiting for about 2 hours. We were very disappointed because this was the main reason to come to Sicily and we dreamed about it during the two years of Covid lockdown.

Booking was easy. We found it a bit annoying that - after a digital booking - you had to exchange the voucher for a ticket. What really annoyed us: The voucher said that the tour starts at 4.30 p.m. and that we have to be there half an hour in advance to exchange said voucher. At 4 p.m. we found that the office didn't even open until 4.30 p.m. After no one was there at 4.30 p.m., we called. Then one of the employees came on the bike and said quite easily that the tour would not start until 5.30 p.m. or a little later, so we still had all the time in the world. We weren't the only ones who felt this way. When we asked why we were called to a closed office an hour early, the employee simply said: The computer sometimes does crazy things. We would have had the time - in the end, almost an hour and a half were happily used other than sitting on the wall, waiting.

It was truly amazing! The pace of the hike is very very affordable since the guide adapts to the group which sometimes includes a few neophytes in the field (not even out of breath when arriving at the top) the landscapes and the comments ... the arrival at 400m, which is the altitude maximum authorized, at dusk, and the eruptions which follow one another are the icing on the cake and a very big icing! I advise you to book at the observatory (on the way back to the village) you will taste excellent pizza in front of the spectacle of the eruptions which continue! But tell the guide… Thanks to Michele who was at the top
