You can drive to the Zoo (plenty of parking). I prefer to travel by Ferry (e.g. from Circular Quay). Ferry boat ride is relaxing and enjoyable getting wonderful views of different bays and beaches around Sydney Harbour on route to the Zoo. Wear comfortable walking shoes, a light backpack, minimum personal essentials, *packet of "Wet Ones" and tissues. While you can get food and drinks at the Zoo, I prefer to take a water bottle and small picnic lunch/sandwiches/biscuits - which my friend(s) also bring, so we share for different food tastes. Makes quite a pleasant picnic break. Suggest you plan ahead which animals and events you wish to see and get there just after the Zoo opens in the morning. This way, you can pace yourself with breaks for a morning "coffee" break and lunch. Tickets come with map(s) which are easy to follow. The views of Sydney Harbour and its shores from the Zoo are spectacular - you'll get some fabulous photos as souvenirs of your visit. Enjoy this great Zoo!

The zoo has a huge variety of animals, ones I didn’t expect to see. It’s very busy and popular with families. Great view of the Sydney skyline with the giraffes in the background. Only a few koalas which I went to see. Tickets for koala experiences are limited and they only run for a few hours a day so you have to arrive really early to get a slot. You can’t hold or pet them though here. Not many kangaroos sadly. Large food village with nice food for different diets - as a coeliac there was options for me which was great. There isn’t a natural path around to follow so there is a lot of walking to ensure you see everything. There is a ferry which I found out so got back to Sydney on this which was nicer than the bus.

Ferry from Circular Quay, direct to Zoo. Bus or cable car to the entry point at the top. The map was so easy to follow, and if by chance you get to the bottom before you have visited the whole place, cable car back to the top. One of the cleanest zoos I have been to in any part of the world. Great staff, helpful. The main food area was far too busy with big lines, so do yourself a favour and go back to top near entry to the cafe. Freshly made food, tables and chaire out on the covered balcony. This day was well worth the entry fee.
