I went to the Opera in the Joan Sutherland theatre as part of my weeks visit to Sydney. I was very excited as I thought I had booked for La Boheme but as I looked at my programme I realised it was an entirely different opera to be performed that night. Imagine my disappointment. On returning to NZ I have tried to determine how I made such an error and can only surmise that in some of the advertising La Boheme and Adriana Le Couvreur had dates that overlapped in February and March. However, I think I would have been alerted to the mistake if the name of the opera had been written somewhere in the information forwarded on the voucher itself. Despite this initial disappointment I had a wonderful and magical evening. The voices soared and the staging was creative and innovative.

We attended the closing night of the opera Carmen and thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Neither of us are really opera fans but seeing Carmen was excellent. We did know some of the music, which helped. The acoustics in the theatre are amazing! My only "complaint" was not being able to book specific seats when reserving in Nov/17. As a result our seats were on the very edge where the views from the overhanging balconies & speakers was somewhat restricted. It would have been nice to have an option of where we sat.

After our tour of the opera building earlier in the day, it was exciting to see the gorgeous red seats filled and the stage...well, the scenery and costumes were incredible. It was disappointing, however, to learn, on the tour, that it entitled us to a $37 discount on opera tickets. Had we only known!
