Full description
The grandeur of an ancient city that repulsed Athens remains to be discovered in Siracusa, or Syracuse. It contains some of Italy's most impressive Greek ruins. The mists of time quickly envelop us as we roll off toward the remains of the encircling wall built by Dionysius I, and the temple to Apollo. Next we head to Piazza Archimede, named after the ancient city's most famous citizen, with its beautiful fountain. Via Roma leads us to the elegant cathedral, its backbone made of Greek columns. Past other baroque monuments in the Old Town area on Ortigia Island such as Benevento del Bosco Palace and the Town Hall, we ride to Arethusa Spring, with its papyrus plants. We pass other landmarks before crossing Umberto Bridge. The Regional Archaeological Museum and Catacombs of San Giovanni are on the way to the Neapolis, where we can see the massive Greek theatre, the Roman amphitheatre and the "Ear of Dionysius," a chamber cut into limestone where Dionysius reportedly imprisoned adversaries so he could hear what they said echoing off the walls.

Fun and informative Segway tour of Ortigia, Sicily.

We had a great Segway experience in Ortigia/Syracuse, considering it's not a tour they do often, if at all. We met in a convenient parking lot where our private group of 4 was able to get all the segway training we needed. We had two guides, the man in the front did the navigating, and our cute Italian gal in the back provided all the history and information via headphones. Going out on Sicily's streets and sidewalks was a bit more tricky navigating than I expected. We were mindful of bumpy cobblestones, fast cars and even old people on the sidewalks who weren't a bit too happy seeing Segways go by. The tour of Ortigia was great and informative, with a fabulous tour of the Basicalla and beautiful coastal waters. I do wish I would have customized the tour to include entrance to the Archeological Park and ampitheater. We saw only the quarries at the end of the tour, so I felt like we missed an important part. Had I known, we would have seen that before meeting up for the tour.

We have very good guidance and explanation.

We are a group of Belgian ladies who went on a Segway trip for the first time. Our ages range from 28 to 72. We all got a very good explanation of how to ride a Segway and we also had a very good guide. They were both very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!
