From Reims: Exclusive Tour to Moet et Chandon & Taittinger

1. From Reims: Exclusive Tour to Moet et Chandon & Taittinger

Explore one of the great wine-producing areas of France on a small group tour of the Champagne region. Sample the sparkling produce of this world-renowned area, such as the Champagne Taittinger, one of the last Champagne houses to be owned by the original family.  With varietals consisting of 50% pinot noir, 15% Pinot Meunier, and 35% chardonnay, the Taittinger vineyard is an unsurpassed example of a Champagne-style in which chardonnay plays such a significant role. The vineyard's production is supplemented by the contractual acquisition of grapes from independent suppliers operating the finest vineyards in the Champagne region.  En route to Épernay, travel through the Marne Valley vineyards to meet the legendary monk Dom Pérignon who produced the most expensive wines of France in the 17th century and is now buried in the church of the former Benedictine Hautvillers Abbey. Visit Épernay, often referred to as the "Capital of Champagne Wine," where the main street appears like an exhibition of luxurious mansions housing illustrious Maisons de Champagne.  Discover some of the most prestigious names, including Moët & Chandon, Perrier-Jouët, and Pol Roger and learn about the 100 kilometers of tunnels beneath the street. Take a break to enjoy lunch in one of several options in the city center during 1 hour of free time.  Next, take a guided tour and enjoy a tasting at the world-famous Maison de Champagne Moët & Chandon. Founded in 1743 by Claude Möet, its history is linked to famous figures such as the Marquise de Pompadour and Napoleon I. Moët & Chandon Champagne has been sold to many important historical events, including the coronation of King Edward VII, the Cannes Film Festival, and the 120th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.

2. From Reims: Pommery Champagne Morning Tour & Tastings

Meet your local guide near Reims center train station and start the day with the discovery of Reims city center by minivan. Drive by “Notre Dame de Reims”, one of the first monuments to be registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover some emblematic places of the city, such as the “Porte de Mars”, a 2000-year-old arch, and the last Roman gate of the city. Absorb the historical atmosphere of the city, home of the coronation of the kings of France. Make the most of your morning in the Champagne region, starting with the exploration of the famous House of Champagne Pommery, with a complete tour of their cellars which are classified as UNESCO World’s Heritage. Finish in style this visit with two champagne tastings. Have a break at a viewpoint on the elegant Montagne de Reims vineyards, where your guide points out the particularities of the region: Why are our vines planted on hillsides? Why is our subsoil made from such pure chalk? Why does champagne only come from the Champagne region? End your morning by discovering a family-run winery. Tour the still-used-today traditional press and vat room as your guide details the traditional Champagne method with a concrete and visual approach. Appreciate several tastings of their own production and acquire tasting knowledge and expertise with these rare champagnes. Your morning tour ends in front of Reims center train station.

Awesome tour!! Usually we do things ourselves without a tour guide, but we only had one day and there’s no way we would be able to do so much in such a short time. We don’t regret a bit! The day was fun and our guide was super knowledgeable and entertaining!

Sebastian was an excellent driver and host for the day. He had lots of wonderful information about Reims, Epernay and the Champagne growing region. Loved his tour of Cathedral of Notre Dome.
