  • Athens: Guided Tour of Ancient Agora and Agora Museum

    2. Athens: Guided Tour of Ancient Agora and Agora Museum

Visit the cradle of democracy and explore one of the most important sites of the antiquity, the birthplace of philosophy. The ancient agora was the commercial, political and financial heart of ancient Athens and is the place where Socrates, Plato and many world-known philosophers walked and taught their thinking.  You will visit the Hephaestus Temple, the best preserved Greek Temple from the 5th century BC and you will see the wonderful church of the 12 Apostles, the Temple of Apollo Patroos, the Stoa of Zeus, the Altar of Zeus. With the input of your knowledgeable guide, the ancient stones will come alive.  Then your licensed guide will take you to the Attalos Museum, which is worthwhile visiting as it houses artifacts of great historical value.

We took this 90 min tour on our last day in Athens to basically fill in time. Am so glad we did as we would never have visited the Ancient Agora or area if we hadn’t. Dorina was a fabulous guide explaining the history of the area and the ruins. After walking up to Hephaestus Temple we went to the Attalos museum where relics of the area are on display. After the tour was finished you could stay and continue to look around on your own. Highly recommend. (Tip: make sure you go to the Ancient Agora to meet and not the Roman Agora.

Amazing experience, a really intimate small group. We were fast tracked through, so no waiting in long queues. Our guide was lovely, very informative and friendly. There was so much to see and a lot of history that you would never know about without a professional guide. I would highly recommend this tour and pre-booking the entrance tickets. Also a huge thank you to the staff at the main office, we were running a bit late, they were so very accommodating to quickly get us to where the rest of the group were. Thank you for opening our eyes and minds to learn about this incredible part of our world history!

Ou tour of the Acropolis and museum was wonderful, a lifetime bucket list. Our guide, Artemis, was terrific. She was able to pace the walk up by stopping frequently in the shade to tell us some things which made the climb up easy, even for my 72 year old husband. We were with our adult children and their spouses and we all enjoyed it immensely.

Loved our tour guide Maria - she was very passionate and enthusiastic all the way through. My wife and I very much enjoyed the Acropolis tour with Maria and would highly recommend folks book their tours with her. She also took some lovely photos that we will always cherish.
