London's iconic Tower Bridge is as extravagantly British as is possible for a bridge to be! It's undoubtedly a must-see. So how do you make the most of your visit to this unique triumph of engineering?
42 meters above the river, Tower Bridge's new glass walkway provides a knee-knocking view of the boats and pedestrians passing beneath your feet. Don't worry, it's quite safe!
The East Walkway not only offers great views across London's historic trading ports and buildings, but is also used as one of the city's most unique exhibition spaces.
Today the bridge is held up by Wi-Fi and selfies (probably), but the old engine rooms demonstrate the former logistic miracle that powered it, complete with authentic sounds and smells!
The short westward stroll leaving Tower Bridge offers a view spanning City Hall, HMS Belfast, and the Shard!
While at Tower Bridge, there are few excuses not to visit its historic namesake, the Tower of London. If you're short on time, the nearby gardens of St. Dunstan-in-the-East are a worthy substitute.
The closest Tube station to Tower Bridge is Tower Hill on the District and Circle lines. The Tower Gateway DLR station is just as close.
Bridge lifts are booked in advance for passing ships. There is no set schedule, but if you want to be sure to see the event, times can be easily found on Tower Bridge's official website. Failing that, you can book a bridge lift yourself for free. All you need is a very tall boat!
Could have been better - not very clear where to board; the tour set off late and there was no commentary throughout the trip. When we reached our destination, the 'tour guide' apologised for this stating he forgot to give us a commentary of this tour and only remembered when reminded by one of the other travellers. His attitude was of "I can't be bothered commentating". We were looking forward to this trip and was extremely disappointed with the attitude of this "tour guide commentator" The trip did NOT last one hour as advertised, but 40 mins with a brief stop at St Katherines Quay!
Really enjoyed our trip to London and our package we purchased. We wanted to do the London Eye and hop on hop off bus - the river cruise was an additional extra thrown in and ended up being the highlight. We ended up walking most of the way around the city, only using the bus twice - both times to go just one stop. Magnificent views from the London Eye - but the cruise was just wonderful. We went from Tower Bridge to Westminster. The guy speaking was really funny and the facts super interesting. The baileys hot chocolate on board also delicious. Would absolutely recommend.
The old London bus was fantastically themed, tour guide Taylor was really funny and very well understood - we did notice a few problems with the wireless microphone cutting in and out, when the tour guide left the bus to talk - however the majority of the time it was clear. some of the story's were fictional and for humour so the tour wasn't really catered for the factual tourers but was still very knowledgeable in parts. its is also quite blue in part so would not recommend children under 12 for this one. marks 7/10
Was fun, wasnt sure what to expect but was nicely Surprised. I took my 8 year old son and I did think some jokes were a little crude, he on the other hand found them hilarious! My fiancé also enjoyed the dad jokes so it worked out pretty well for us. Defo a fun way to sight see :)
We had a really lovely day , we learnt lots , things we didn’t know , the staff were exceptional , really helpful , polite and knowledgeable .
