Naples: The Bourbon Tunnel Guided Tour with Entrance Ticket

3. Naples: The Bourbon Tunnel Guided Tour with Entrance Ticket

Come and see enchanting scenery unfold before your eyes in a secret place full of history and atmosphere. This emotional journey conducts visitors through the new section of the underground of Naples. The Bourbon Tunnel was built in 1853 by Ferdinand II of Bourbon, who, concerned about the outbreak of the rebellion, asked for an escape from the Royal Palace to the barrack in Via della Pace, now Via Morelli. The work was not completed and, during the Second World War, was used by residents of the area as a military hospital, later becoming the Hall Judicial Deposit. The war left its mark even in the subsoil where we find handwritten messages of wish and desolation of those who lived there. In the tunnels you will also find statues dating back to the fascist period and a unique exhibition of many cars and motorcycles, abandoned for years and then freed from piles of rubbish, arranged and illuminated ad hoc along the route.

Serena is a fantastic guide. So knowledgable. The catacombs are staggering. Beautiful. Mystical. Profound. Going on the last tour of the day at 1700 was really special, it was getting dark out and really added to the mysticism of the place.

Dario, our guide, was fabulous - fun, friendly and knowledgeable. We were taken on a journey into another world…..an absorbing insight into the history of an incredible city. I highly recommend this tour.

This visit was very pleasant because in addition to seeing the catacombs we saw the Sanitá neighborhood, which we did not like very much because I did not know it.

It was really interesting to know all history about these tunels. The guide was really friendly and funny, so Time passed really fast. Recomend this activity.

A very interesting 75 minutes…history of its use from the Roman Empire through today.
